Tijssen, Robert J.W., Thed N. van Leeuwen and Anthony F.J. van Raan: Mapping the Scientific Performance of German Medical Research An International Comparative Bibliometric Study. The study was initiated and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Stuttgart - New York, Schattauer, 2002. ISBN: 3794521617
about this book: Is medical research in Germany represented at an internationally competitive or exceptional level? In which specialty fields is such research being conducted? Are the achievements in German research improving further or in decline? Statements on the performance level of German research alternate from the opinion that the achievements of German researchers are declining to reports on international scientific advances. This is often due to the differing criteria with which research performance is assessed. The evaluation of scientific achievement based on publications, so-called bibliometry, has recently become a respected method, also in Germany. In order to assess the position of German medical research in an international framework, bibliometric methods were used systematically for the first time in the present study. All publications which appeared in internationally peer-reviewed periodicals in all medical and related fields served as the basis for the study. Using the bibliometric analysis, the above-mentioned questions and others can be answered. These results, which are supplemented by a comparative analysis of the German medical faculties and essential non-university institutions in health research, are a valuable basis for further discussion on the achievements of German medical research. Burkert, Andreas, Reinhard Genzel Günther Hasinger (Eds.) u. a.: Status and Prospects of Astronomy in Germany 2003 - 2016. Memorandum. Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG. Weinheim: Wiley-VCH, 2008. ISBN: 9783527319107
Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Englische Ausgabe der 2003 erschienenen deutschen Studie. Editorial Committee: Andreas Burkert, Reinhard Genzel, Günther Hasinger, Gregor Morfill, Peter Schneider und Detlev Koester. Aus dem Vorwort der übersetzten Ausgabe: About five years ago, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation, DFG) published the original German version of the memorandum "Status and Prospects of Astronomy in Germany 2003-2016". This report, the third in a series of strategic planning documents for German astronomy, identified priorities for the next decade(s) and the tools and instruments necessary to achieve these objectives. Due to increasing global cooperation and the ensuing need to coordinate planning in an international, and in particular European context, the DFG now presents an English translation of its memorandum to disseminate its findings and facilitate collaborative efforts in this area. This translation also provides a unigue opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved in the different areas since publication of the memorandum. Fortunately, the basic conditions for public research funding in Germany have improved significantly over the last years, as the major German research organisations have profited from a steady increase of their budgets. In addition, the Excellence Initiative launched in 2005 makes a significant contribution to strengthening science and research in Germany in the long term, improving its international competitiveness and raising the profile of the top performers in academia and research. Also the German national space programme, managed by the German Aerospace Center, DLR, enjoyed a significant budgetary increase allowing the start of new projects in basic space research. ... herausgegeben von I.C.T International Cooperation and Transfer; Weniger, J. H. Highlights of German Research projects in the Tropics and Subtropics. ICT, Berlin 1988 ISBN: 3926921021

- "Broschur gr. 8;; 114 Seiten; Bibliotheksstempel auf Rückseite Haupttitel, sonst wohlerhalten; Tabellen, Karten, Fotos; Die Veröffentlichung erschien im Auftrag des BMZ (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit) und des BML - It is not yet possible to say whether we will be able, by the turn of the century, to achieve a sufficient increase in production in the developing countries to fulfil their rapidly increasing need for foodstuffs, and to stop the further spread of hunger in the word. It is a challenge to both donor and receiving nations to secure a long-term self-sufficient supply of food in the Third Word. The government of the Federal Republic of Germany has the urgent wish to make an effective and lasting con tribution to this process. Throughout the world, agriculture is being called upon to develop suitable technology and methods of production, and to improve the quality of existing animal and plant material so that farmers will be able to increase their produc tion levels while still conserving natural resources. Close cooperation between international agricultural research centres and institutes in the Third World and the industrialized nations is of vital importance. The significance of German research in the areas of tropical and subtropical agriculture has long been underestimated. In recent years, however, German achievements in these sectors have led to international recognition. This brochure can reflect only a fraction of what Germany has to offer in the areas of tropical and subtropical agricultural research. A complete survey of relevant research projects is provided in the publication "Agricultural Research for the Tropics and Subtropics - Current Projects of Research Institutes in the Federal Republic of Germany". The government of the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Ministries for Economic Cooperation and of Food, Agriculture and Forests, supports German agriculturalists involved in international research. The government of the Federal Republic of Germany is supported in an advisory capacity by the Gennan Council for Tropical and Sub tropical Agricultural Research (A TSAF), a committee made up of concerned and experienced researchers and teachers who have spent years working on the agricultural problems of developing countries. - - -"
