Contributors include: Martin Bax, Tom McGrath, DB. Lord, Anastasia Wood, NW Denton, R.E.Mutch, Michael Butterworth, Gordon Hobday, J Jeffrey Jones, Margaret Newton, Michael Butterworth. POEMS: One submission for the 'Ambit Psycadelic (sic) Poetry(Drug)' by Robert Bob Sward with his London address label and a note in Bax's hand + poem 'Impossible Hurricane LossÐofÐName Poem' with RS Address label + short poem by James Summers from the New York Times book review 10/2/66 'The Long Ride Home' (For ages 12 to 16) nominated for Outstanding Review of The Year "Todd finds a solution through Alateen, an adjunct of Alcoholics Anonymous, teenagers can discuss family problems constructively.". /Humorous poem for Martin Bax, Gavin Ewart and Peter Porter 'Three Sexual Couples in England.' /2 x tom McGrath poems/Bundle: prepared draft of 45 poems, clipped and stapled with h/w notes and corrections. H/w list correlates with poem titles, such as 'Snow,' 'Heroin, 'Benzedrine,' 'The Walk.' / Five submissions of poetry and writing with interesting covering letters, including a bundle from Margaret Newton " Were all written in the above order (after 6 whiskeys and 4 Drynamil tablets) between 1:30 am and 6 am on the night of the 25th to 26th November 1967." Michael Butterworth a peom written under the influence of 'bush' (hemp). He went on to write SF and was assocaiated with Savoy Books and Joy Division. LETTERS: 4 submission letters without corresponding work with interesting background information "These three poems were written during the period October 1961 to April 1962 when I was undergoing medical treatment with the drug LSD in a mental hospital." MEDICAL/RESEARCH/GRANT: typed draft letter from Dr. CRB Joyce, Head of pharmacology,on headed paper from London Hospital Medical College, University of London, addressed to Lord Goodman, Chairman, Arts Council, requesting a grant: "As you are aware, there is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding the part played by drugs (in the widest sense) upon the higher processes of the human central nervous system." Typed reply from Martin Bax with suggested edits:" I doubt if any artist has really claimed drugs have given him plots." Two pages of typed 'Research Requirements' with h/w note 'Drugs file.'/ Ambit was a quarterly UK literary periodical founded in 1959 by Martin Bax, a London novelist and consultant paediatrician. Uniting art, fiction, poetry and reviews, and distributed internationally, the magazine appeared quarterly until going on indefinite hiatus in April 2023. Very good.
