The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just very slight splaying of the front board and a hint of toning to the text-block. Original navy cloth with the spine lettere…d in gilt. Free from inscriptions and erasures. 11 illustrations (3 full-page) printed from lino, rubber cuts and line-blocks in various striking colours by Rigby Graham. No Wrapper as issued. The edition was originally intended to consist of 250 copies, but disaster struck after the seventy-sixth printing; the sheets had been spread out to dry over the floor of an attic, when a sudden spell of sunshine hatched out woodworm in the floor, and overnight more than one hundred of the sheets were peppered with holes. As the sheet had a five-colour linocut on it, reprinting was impossible, and the edition was, in consequence, reduced by nearly half. (See: Cave The Private Press, p.260). Scarce. Set in Monotype Baskerville and printed on Velin arches pure cotton mould-made paper. Folio, original citron morocco backed orange cloth s…ides with gilt designs by Rigby Graham blocked on both sides, gilt lettering on spine, housed in the original purple cloth covered slipcase with design by Rigby Graham blocked in gilt on one side. No darkening to the spine (this copy has been stored away since publication until very recently). The text is taken from Thomas Pennant's famous eighteenth century work 'A Tour in Wales' and is here edited with an introduction by Gwyn Walters who perfectly captures the spirit and writings of the great naturalist and antiquarian who originally came from Flintshire. 20 spectacular colour woodcuts by Rigby Graham, several being double page and dramatic colour woodcut endpapers. Graham's illustrations, which dramatically blend the eighteenth and twenty-first century landscapes are exciting and vibrant and stand as a monument to his remarkable achievements as an important British illustrator and printmaker. An extremely handsome copy. With the publisher's prospectus loosely inserted. With two prints loosely inserted, both signed and numbered by Rigby Graham. The prints are in Fine condition. They were issued simultaneously with the book and were available direct from the publishers on request. The limitation size was '80' for each signed print, although it is unclear whether 80 copies of each print were actually issued. More images available on request. She established her studio, the Merlicorn Bindery, on Nantucket in 1975, which she moved to Maine in 1985. She specializes in one-of-a-kind creative ne binding, all aspects of rare book restoration, and general hand bookbinding. Tight, bright and unmarred. Only 25 such boxes were issued ( Rigby Graham in Print : Van Eijk). Two Brewhouse Press flyers for 'Publications in print' are also loosely inserted. Very scarce with such attributes.
