Their appeal -- conjuring images of afternoons in homey tearooms or elegant gatherings in grand hotels -- is universal. But a new generation of teapots has stood tradition on its ear. As author Leslie Ferrin says, "Today the teapot has one foot in the kitchen and the other in the art world." "For the artist, making a teapot provides daunting challenges. As the various parts -- body, lid, handle, spout and foot -- are assembled, each creator must solve technical difficulties within the context of design, function and scale. As a result, teapots are the objects with which artists in all media demonstrate the heights of their technical and creative abilities." "Teapots Transformed: Exploration of an Object tells the tale of this art form, from the traditional, functional teapot to an eclectic mix of contemporary designs. The exhilarating collection is presented in more than 120 vivid full-color photographs. The book will delight tea drinkers around the world, while providing inspiration for artists and a visual feast for the growing number of teapot collectors.

"Wilson Blamed His Plight on Demon Rum" Wilson, John M. [1858-1887]. Leopold, W.A. [1847-1925], Editor. A Full History of the Eventful Life, Crimes, Confessions, Repentance, And Death on the Gallows of John M. Wilson, Hanged Jan. 13th, 1887, For the Murder of Anthony W. Dealy, Jan. 26th, 1884, Whose Body, Cut Up and in Bags, Was Found March, 1884, In the Wissahickon. Written by Himself, And Edited, Revised and Published by Rev. W.A. Leopold. Norristown, PA: W.A. Leopold, [1887]. 110 pp. Octavo (7-1/4" x 4-3/4"; 18.4 x 12 cm). Stab-stitched pamphlet in printed wrappers, woodcut portrait of Wilson to front wrapper and title page, woodcut image of the prison where he was held and executed to rear wrapper, "Editor and Publisher's Apology" (i.e. advertisement) to verso of front wrapper. Light soiling to wrappers, light wear to spine ends and corners of text block, moderate toning to interior. $650. * Only edition of this incredibly rare 19th-century execution narrative. As noted by McDade, Wilson blamed his tragic plight on "demon rum," though his diminutive physical stature played an equally macabre role in his undoing. Standing just 5'2" and weighing barely 100 pounds, Wilson was employed by Anthony W. Dealy, a farmer in Chestnut Hill, Montgomery County. When Dealy refused to pay his wages, an intoxicated Wilson flew into a rage and killed his employer with a cleaver. Because the winter ground was frozen too solid for burial, and Wilson was too small to carry the corpse intact, he dismembered Dealy's body and attempted to sink the remains in the Wissahickon Creek. This appears to be a rare title. OCLC locates 7 copies, 2 in law libraries (California Western, Yale). McDade, The Annals of Murder 1108.
