Het werk biedt een scherpzinnige en vaak kritische analyse van het Nederlandse staatsbestel, de handel, de economie, het onderwijs, de religie, de kunsten en het dagelijks leven.Een bijzonder aantrekkelijk onderdeel van deze uitgave vormen de vier fraai met de hand ingekleurde kopergravures met streekdrachten uit Friesland, Hindeloopen, Zaandam en Zuid-Beveland. Deze behoren tot de vroegste gekleurde afbeeldingen van Nederlandse regionale klederdrachten. De platen zijn beschreven in Landwehrs standaardwerk Dutch Books with Coloured Plates (nr. 286), waarin zij worden gerekend tot de klassieke vroeggekleurde Nederlandse boekillustraties. Nederlandse vertaling van 'Ueber die vereinigten Niederlande', verschenen in hetzelfde jaar te Gotha. In zijn voorwoord merkt de anonieme vertaler op dat Grabner zich zijns inziens wat te veel beperkt tot het gewest Holland en wel erg vriendelijk is over ons land, maar hij acht het boek toch belangrijk voor de kennis van ons land. De prenten zijn in deze Nederlandse editie anders dan in de Duitse. Nu betreft het vier ongesigneerde handgekleurde gravures van Hindeloper, Friese, Zuid-Bevelandse en Zaanse dames in streekkostuum. Het Bijvoegsel betreft een brief van de auteur aan Loosjes, gedateerd Steenbergen 2 april 1793, waarin hij meedeelt tevreden te zijn over de vertaling, maar dat hij toch een aantal opmerkingen heeft, o.a. over de Haarlemmermeer, het dragen van borstlappen en turf als brandstof. Eigenlijk blijkt dat hij zich geërgerd heeft aan eigenwijsheid van de vertaler. Voorts deelt hij in een noot wat cijfers mee over de mortaliteit te Steenbergen.…
