A Good Helping: Recipes From Canterbury and District Samaritans

These recipes were gathered from volunteers at Canterbury and District Samaritans and our community. The dishes are what we like to eat and are special to us. Some of the recipes remind us of people and places dear to us and important parts of our lives. Some are our comfort eats; others provide continuity and the "glue" which keeps families and communities together. Recipes are handed on and enjoyment shared. Not all of our volunteers wanted to be acknowledged in their recipes so there are more people involved in the making of this book than we have been able to list. Samaritans volunteers give their time generously and without recognition and the branch as a whole has contributed to this project to raise money to keep the vital work we do running twenty-four hours a day. On the telephone, by email or online, we make sure people have somewhere to turn, and support when they need it most. We work with communities to let people know we’re here for them and we campaign to make suicide prevention a priority. We listen without judgement and give people the time and space to come to their own decisions. All of the profits from the book will be used to support callers at Samaritans Canterbury and District Branch.
