The collection includes all of Faraday's most important contributions to the fields of electricity, electro-magnetic induction and magnetism. The author's epoch-making discovery of the means to generate electricity by electro-magnetic induction is the principle behind the dynamo and the transformer, and the foundation of the modern electrical industry. The experiments that Faraday recorded in this paper marked the begining of his "great series of investigations into electricity" (PMM), through which he established the identity of all types of electricity, the magnetic properties of the earth and his theory of "lines" or "tubes" of magnetic force, "the starting point for the revolutionary theories of Clerk Maxwell and later of Einstein" (PMM).
