Über die Autorinnen und Autoren:
The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible. These words from Toni Cade Bambara guide Kristen Adele Calhoun's work as a playwright, performer and organizer. She is the founding program director of ArtChangeUS and co-producer of InterFest, an intersectional arts and ideas festival that began at the Harlem School of the Arts. She is the assistant editor of Contemporary Plays by Women of Color, and her play, Canfield Drive, about Ferguson, the murder of Mike Brown and the revolutionary power of healing in the face of oppression, had a rolling world premiere in 2019 at the St. Louis Black Rep and The National Black Theatre Festival. Other plays include Black Cypress Bayou, The Oldest Town in Texas, Quilombo (5280 Artists Coop), With These Hands (Black American West Museum), and Ain't Gonna Let Nobody (NAACP). A native of Dallas, Texas, she is a graduate of the University of North Texas and the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Kristen is currently reading, writing and living in Accra, Ghana.
Edith Weiss has been involved in the theater as actor, director, and playwright. Her plays for young audiences and her comedic murder mysteries have been performed locally at the Arvada Center and internationally as far afield as Kazakhstan, Malta, and South Africa. Her work is published by Dramatics, Pioneer, Eldridge, Brooklyn and Big Dog Publishers. Twenty years as a touring stand-up comic informs her comedic style. She was head writer and director of Vox Phamalia, an original comedic sketch comedy show produced by the Phamaly Theater Company of Denver (previously the Physically Handicapped Amateur Musical Actors League), starting with Tales From the Crips to Pity Pity Bang Bang seven years later. Her short adult plays have received productions in Boston, Chicago, NYC, Albuquerque, Kansas City and Denver. Holy Couch was shortlisted for the Short + Sweet playwrighting competition in Australia.
