This is Lubomir Pribyl, who already in the second half of the 1950s moved towards a modern, simplified form and developed a distinctive abstraction. In the very early 1960s, he then very originally combined the means of structural painting with a minimalist composition of images, and at that time also began to consistently apply monochrome, mostly silver or black, in his relief paintings. Thanks to this specific focus, he was the first in our country to be closest to the problems brought to the international art scene by the Zero movement. In an international context, he began to appear primarily through his graphics, in which he re-evaluated the possibilities of printing from a material matrix. Over the following decades, Pribyl remained faithful to monochrome and the use of the language of geometry, gradually exploring a number of problems arising from linear constructions and their arrangement according to certain rules. Over time, however, some syntactically more complex constructions also appeared in the sphere of the artist's interest. The author of the text of Pribyl's monograph is Jiri Valoch, who has been following his work since the mid-1960s, when he also first presented it in exhibitions. *** [DE] Zustand: Neu | Mit einer großen repräsentativen Monografie erinnert die Galerie an eine der künstlerischen Persönlichkeiten, deren Werk maßgeblich zur Gestaltung der tschechischen bildenden Kunstkultur von den frühen 1960er Jahren bis heute beigetragen hat, die aber aufgrund der spezifischen Ausrichtung ihres Schaffens manchmal zu Unrecht übersehen wurde. Es handelt sich um Lubomir Pribyl, der bereits in der zweiten Hälfte der 1950er Jahre eine moderne, vereinfachte Form anstrebte und eine eigenständige Abstraktion entwickelte. Zu Beginn der 1960er Jahre verband er dann sehr originell die Mittel der strukturellen Malerei mit einer minimalistischen Bildkomposition und begann zu dieser Zeit auch, in seinen Reliefbildern konsequent Monochromie, meist Silber oder Schwarz, anzuwenden. Dank dieser spezifischen Ausrichtung war er der erste in unserem Land, der den Problemen, die die Zero-Bewegung auf die internationale Kunstszene brachte, am nächsten stand. Im internationalen Kontext begann er sich bereits damals vor allem durch seine Grafiken zu etablieren, in denen er die Möglichkeiten des Drucks von einer Materialmatrix neu bewertete. In den folgenden Jahrzehnten blieb Pribyl der Monochromie und der Verwendung der Sprache der Geometrie treu und untersuchte schrittweise eine Reihe von Problemen, die sich aus linearen Konstruktionen und deren Anordnung nach bestimmten Regeln ergaben. Im Laufe der Zeit tauchten jedoch auch einige syntaktisch komplexere Konstruktionen im Interessensbereich des Künstlers auf. Der Autor des Textes von Pribyls Monografie ist Jiri Valoch, der sein Werk seit Mitte der 1960er Jahre verfolgt, als er es auch erstmals in Ausstellungen präsentierte.

Two stapled textblocks, mimeographed rectos only, glued together at the gutter between two leaves (one being a great color flyer for the Music Grotto, "Cleveland's first psychedelic record shop"), with a newsprint spine and cover glue…d on at both shoulders. Illustrated with the aforementioned flyer, two leaves of appropriated Cleveland art cinema flyers, and an original two-color silkscreen: "you can have your fucking city bak." Newsprint tanned and offset onto the first page, newsprint spine with loss and tiny tears, and the lower wrap soiled; the staples have pulled through at the leaf joining the two texblocks, i.e. the issue is now essentially two sound, stapled textblocks conjoined by a nearly perished newsprint spine. A very good copy of a magazine featuring some truly excellent concrete poems by T. L. Kryss, rjs (Robert J. Sigmund), and levy ("The Saundaryalahari; or, Flood of Beauty"), as well as poems by rolla rieder, jiri valoch, and the artist timm ulrichs, and two essays on Yoga by Walter Evans-Wentz. "goddamnit LOVE PREVAILS this issue is for 'DARCY JUSTINE.'" Taylor and Horvath P-157. Uncommon.
