Isaac Kauffmann (1805â"1884) was born in Bouxwiller, Alsace; in 1832 he moved to Frankfurt where he first set up a bookshop, and later in 1850 founded the Jewish publishing house named J. Kauffmann. He was succeeded by his son Ignatz who in 1900 took over the printing house of M. Lehrberger and Co., successor to Wolf Heidenheim's Hebrew publishing house. in 1909 Ignatz son Felix succeeded the business, which he continued to maintain even after his emigration to the USA during the Nazi era.
