Struck by Pappe circa 1990s, from his archive. Pappe worked as a film still and press photographer for 30 years, photographing a who's who of film and music stars, including iconic images of Sharon Tate, Jimi Hendrix, and Liza Minnelli, as well as album cover for the "Grease" soundtrack album, and the interior images of Jefferson Airplane's "After Bathing at Baxter's." His 1972 "Time" magazine cover photograph of Minnelli in "Cabaret" is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. A publisher's quiet afternoon at home is repeatedly interrupted by his tenant, his brother, his friends, and his wife, whose disturbances gradually strip away his mild-mannered facade, revealing his cruel nature in the process. Playwright Simon Gray is best remembered for his collaborations with director Harold Pinter, beginning with the 1971 play "Butley." The play made its Broadway debut at the Plymouth Theatre in February of 1977, after running for two years at the Queen's Theatre in London. Winner of the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play. Blue titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers with credit for playwright Simon Gray. The film first aired live on March 25, 1965 on the BBC program "The Largest Theatre in the World." INSCRIBED by screenwriter Pinter on that day: "March 25th 1965 / To Peter Colin Holder / Congratulations on being born! / Hooray! / Lots of Love / Harold Pinter." The story of an industrial tycoon who comes to believe that his new secretary, second wife, and brother-in-law are all conspiring against him, to the point where his health is affected by the conviction. The Caretaker opened at the Lyceum Theatre on October 4, 1961, for a run of 165 performances, closing on February 24, 1962. Harold Pinter's sixth major work and first commercial success, a tragicomedy highly indebted to Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot (1953). The play premiered at the Arts Theatre Club in London in April of 1960, transferring to the Duchess Theatre a month later, then, after 444 performances, to Broadway in 1961, where it starred Alan Bates, Donald Pleasence, and Robert Shaw. Nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Actor in a Play for Donald Pleasance, and Best Direction of a Play for Donald McWhinnie. Revived twice on Broadway, in 1986 and 2004.
