The ground-dwelling species Ferussacia martinae n. sp. is described from Quarternary sand deposits of probably upper Pleistocene age from the Jandía Peninsula of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. It is compared with the extant Ferussaciidae species from Fuerteventura. The new species clearly differs from Ferussacia submajor (Wollaston, 1878) by its wider shell and from Sculptiferussacia? clausiliaeformis Alonso & Ibanez, 1992 by its smaller size and less developed radial ribbing. The generic status of both genea on the Canary Islands is being discussed. 8 pp., 1 plate, 4 figs, 4.

The species of the clausiliid genus Boettgeria O. Boettger, 1863, are re-evaluated and a hypothesis concerning their evolution and radiation on the Madeira Archipelago is forwarded. As a result, the genus is subdivided in two subgenera, one of which is herein described (Loosjesiella n. subgen.). A cladogram summarizing the hypothetical evolution of the group is presented. New taxa: Loosjesiella n. subgen., Boettgeria (Boettgeria) jensi n. sp. 12 pp., 8 figs, gr. 8.

A fossil species of the genus Obelus (Family Hygromiidae), currently present with recent endemic species in some islands of the Canarian Archipelago, is described from calcareous arenites of Neogene age on the island of Fuerteventura. It is compared with conchologically similar recent species from Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and La Gomera. 5 pp., 1 plate, 2 figs, 4.

The more than 20 extant members of the genus Canariella Hesse, 1918 are all endemic to the Canary Islands. From the largest island of the Canarian Archipelago, Tenerife, only 5 species of the genus are currently recognised as valid species. This comparatively low number of species is suprising when compared with diversity of other endemic genera of the Canary Islands and when compared with the diversity of Canariella on other large, high islands of this archipelago. We critically review the diversity of the Canariella hispidula (Lamarck, 1822) group on the basis of the available published data, as well as on the basis of materials in musem collections and the collections of the authors. Of the 9 previously described taxa belonging to this species complex we recognise 6 as valid species, namely C. hispidula, C. berthelotii (d'Orbigny, 1836), C. leprosa (Shuttleworth, 1852), C. lanosa (Mousson, 1872), C. subhispidula (Mousson, 1872), and C. everia (Mabille, 1882). The nominal taxon Helix (Gonostoma) beata Wollaston, 1878 is considered as a subspecies of C. berthelotii, while the nominal taxa Helix fortunata Shuttleworth, 1852 and Helicodonta salteri Gude, 1911 are considered synonyms of C. berthelotii and C. hispidula, respectively. The taxon from the southern and south-eastern parts of Tenerife previously considered to represent "C. bertheloti (Férussac, 1835)" is described as a new species, Canariella hartmuti sp. nov. The designation of a "lectotype" by Ibánez et al. (1995) for this unavailable name is withdrawn. The taxa C. leprosa and C. everia are placed in an undescribed subgenus, while the remaining taxa are placed in the nomintae subgenus Canariella s.str. New taxon: Canariella hartmuti n. sp. 21 pp., 12 figs, 4.

The mollusk fauna of the Rhine floodplain near Hördt (Rhineland-Palatinate) a critical comparison after more than four decades Between 2008 and 2011 a survey of the mollusk fauna of the Rhine floodplain near Hordt focussing on the species listed in the annexes II and IV of the European Habitats Directive was conducted. Results were compared with investigations on the land snails and freshwater molluscs in the 1960th and 1970th. With about 1,500 single records and nearly 25,000 specimens collected from more than 60 sites the new survey yielded, among others, the first local records of the rare and endangered species Anisus vorticulus, Vertigo moulinsiana, Gyraulus riparius, and Pisidium pseudosphaerium and added significantly to the known list of species. Simple comparative analyses showed that especially the older aquatic assessments despite their own claim did not prove adequate to reveal faunal changes. Methodological deficiencies alone feasibly accounted for the differences observed. For this reason, with exception of Unio crassus, population trends could not be determined in the annex-species of the Habitats Directive either. Comprising a total of 133 species including four presumably locally extinct taxa, the area near Hordt probably is the floodplain with the highest diversity and concentration of endangered mollusk species in the entire Upper Rhine Valley. In total, 40 % of the species are either on the Red list of Germany or Rhineland-Palatinate, four of eight species in the category "critically endangered" still survive in the area, another twelve species are ranked as "endangered". The importance of the area as an inactive floodplain of excellent conservation status with its typical advanced succession stages is emphasized. The relative isolation of the area from the Rhine main stream guarantees the survival of many species by protecting them against the unnatural floodplain dynamics and fluctuating water quality. Anisus vorticulus is presented as indicator species for such conditions. 42 pp., 13 figs, 6 tabs, gr. 8.

The genus-group Hystricella R. T. Lowe, 1855 is revised on the basis of conchological, anatomical and genetic characteristics. A new genus Wollastonia gen. n., two recent species, W. jessicae sp. n. and W. klausgrohi sp. n., and one recent subspecies, W. jessicae monticola ssp. n. are described as new to science, as well as five fossil taxa, H. microcarinata sp. n., W. beckmanni sp. n., W. falknerorum sp. n., W. ripkeni sp. n., and W. inexpectata sp. n. For Helix vermetiformis R. T. Lowe, 1855, H. leacockiana Wollaston, 1878, H. oxytropis R. T. Lowe, 1831, H. duplicata R. T. Lowe, 1831 and H. oxytropis var. ß subcarinulata Wollaston, 1878 lectotypes are designated. For the taxa Helix bicarinata G. B. Sowerby I, 1824, Helix bicarinata var. ß aucta Wollaston, 1878 and Discula bulverii W. Wood, 1828 neotypes are selected. The taxa aucta and subcarinulata are elevated to specific rank. For the hitherto monospecific (sub-) genus Callina R. T. Lowe, 1855 it is shown that it is not closely related to the genus Discula but to the Hystricella-group and its generic rank is confirmed. The taxon D. bulverii W. Wood, 1828 is transferred from the genus Discula s. str. to the genus Callina. A further fossil taxon C. waldeni sp. n. is described as new to science. 125 pp., 232 figs, br. gr. 8 [16.5 x 24 cm].
