An overlooked magazine that does not seem to feature in listings of Victorian periodicals, but copies are held by the British Library. A magazine of literature, art and general articles. Some of the stories and serials were written by Mrs Hall herself. Articles are very varied and include curious topics such as serpent worship and the Wer-wolf, a Kentish legend. There are illustrations in the first five volumes including some plates by Hablot K Browne, better known as Charles Dicken's illustrator 'Phiz'. The remaining volumes are not illustrated. Thisse do not have the extra Christmas numbers. The books are uniformly bound in 1/2 leather with blind-stamped and gilt decoration to the spine. Title and volume number in gilt on red and green labels respectively. Marbled boards and edging, repeated on endpapers. The marbled paper on volume one is different from the others and is well rubbed. The title label on volume XII has replaced with near identical lettering.
