When origianlly published in 1981, The Hand Cannons of Imperial Jpan was heralded as one of the most readable works on firearms ever produced. To arms collectors and scholars, it remains a prized source of information on Japanese handguns, their development, and their history. In this new Revised and Expanded edition, original author Harry Derby has teamed with Jim Brown to provide a thorough update reflecting twenty years of additional research. The authors have retained the format and much of the text of the original edition, focusing on military cartridge arms from the 1893-1945 period. Signed by Farrington on the Introduction Page. A small booklet of World War I distributed to students in 325 New York City Schools. Someone was penned (Note Checked Poems" on the front cover, and several poems have little ink asterisks at the top of the page. Scarce! Harry Webb Farrington (1879?1930) was an American author, poet, hymn writer, preacher, soldier and education. He was born an orphan and grew up at various locations in Maryland and witnesses the great religious revivals of the late 1890s. The story of his life comes from one of his books, Kilts to Togs: Orphan Adventures (1930). Farrington served as the athletic director for the French troops during World War I. He became an ordained Methodist preacher and served as pastor of the Grace Methodist Church in New York City. He then became the education director in that area for the Methodist Church Welfare League. Due to being paralyzed in an accident, he died on October 27, 1930 in Asbury Park, NJ.
