Fourcroy avait été chargé d'un travail sur l'instruction publique par la section de l'Intérieur du Conseil d'Etat. Il présenta un rapport sur ce sujet à son retour de sa deuxième mission. Dans ce rapport il proposait notamment de réorganiser l'enseignement des écoles primaires en y réintroduisant, entre autres mesures, l'éducation religieuse. Il souhaitait combler le vide existant entre ces écoles primaires et les écoles centrales (crées en 1795 par la loi du 3 brumaire an IV pour les élèves à partir de 12 ans), en créant les écoles secondaires dans lesquelles l'enseignement des sciences serait renforcé au détriment de matières comme le latin. Fourcroy was a chemist during a time of flourish for French science. His contemporaries included Antoine Lavoiser, Louis Guton de Morveau and Claude Berthollet, all of whom he collaborated with. Their collaboration was on 'Methode de Nomenclature Chimique' which helped to standardize nomenclature. This work deals with the philosophy of Chemistry and looks at the fundamentals of the science. The third edition of this work. In the original French. With a lengthy introductory section and a further twelve sections, which discuss the likes of the general means of chemistry, principles of the body and composition attraction in addition to much more. A smartly bound work, written by one of the French pioneers of cerebral chemistry. In a contemporary quarter calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light shelfwear to the head ad tail of spine in addition to the joints. Minor rubbing to the boards. Prior owner's inscription to the half-title, P A P Bessy. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with occasional light spots to pages. Very Good. book.
