In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Good. First edition. The first edition of Fourcroy and Delaporte's chemical investigation of the sulphurous waters of Enghien, with the earlier Paris Faculty of Medicine report on the spring bound to the rear. In a contemporary quarter calf binding with painted paper boards. First edition. An important 18th century study of the chemical composition of the sulphurous waters of Enghien, applying the developing methods of the new French chemistry to the analysis of mineral and medicinal waters. Bound to the rear is the short pamphlet Rapport fait par Messieurs les Commissaires nommes par la Faculte de Medecine, pour l'examen des eaux d'Enghien, au-dessous de l'Etang de Saint-Gratien. First published in 1785, this work presents the findings of the Paris Faculty of Medicine's commissioners concerning the Enghien waters. Fourcroy and Delaporte examine the physical and chemical properties of the Enghien spring, the substances held in solution and their behaviour under different reagents, together with the medical significance of sulphurous mineral waters. The work also includes analyses of the waters of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Vaugirard. Antoine Francois, Comte de Fourcroy (1755-1809) was a leading French chemist, physician and scientific administrator. A collaborator and advocate of Antoine Lavoisier, he played an important role in disseminating the new chemical nomenclature. A interesting copy offering two closely related contemporary investigations into the Enghien mineral spring. In a contemporary quarter calf binding with painted paper boards. Externally, a little worn. Spine rubbed, with loss to the leather and labels; two shelf labels tail and lower central portion of spine. Rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in slight loss to calf and paper. Joints cracked with chipping to calf, boards tender with wear to hinges, but holding. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean if slightly age toned with the odd spot to first and last few leaves. Slight edge wear to first and final few leaves. Ink ownership stamp to title page. Slight cockling to leaves. Slight wear and soiling to uncut leaves of "Rapport." Good. None (illustrator). book.…

In den WarenkorbCouverture rigide. Zustand: Bon. …
