Neuware -Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: A, , course: Fiscal and Monetary Policy Analysis and Management, language: English, abstract: This paper attempts to test the validity of public welfare spending theories (compensation theory, system theory, median voter theory, group theory, Incrementalism and some variants of public choice theory) in the context of Thailand. The study make use of GDP, previous welfare spending, increases in population, tax revenue, openness to trade, democratic government, labour union, trade association, urbanisation and welfare spending as a share of GDP over the period 1982 ¿ 2007. We found strong and positive link between globalisation, GDP, tax revenue, labour union and previous welfare spending with Thailand welfare spending. These increases will invariably call for increased access to education, health care systems and other related welfare spending which means, the revenue base has to be increased through tax. We therefore recommend Thai Government to undertake reform in the tax system to broaden the tax net. Also, land and property tax systems ought to be reformed as well to extend coverage. We also recommend the stimulation of domestic demand in Thailand to reduce the over reliance on the international market which exposes countries to high end risks and uncertainties. The falling population growth in Thailand could also spell a doom to Thai¿s labour supply. Thailand currently relies on immigrant workers from neigbouring countries like Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Burma. As the economic conditions in these countries improve, these immigrant workers might return. This will create a shortage in the supply needs to cater for the ever increasing demand propelled by the continuous industralisation of the Thai economy. Policy decision makers should factor this in their subsequent decision to mitigate this effect in the near future.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 36 pp. Englisch.

Such has been assured since 1871, as professional baseball first complemented everyday American life by virtue of the National Association of Professional Base Ball Player¿s (NAPBBP) inaugural season. The formation of the NAPBBP denoted a fundamental separation of amateur and professional baseball clubs, and the eternal intertwining of sport and business. This moment in history would more broadly beget a critical juncture in the development of the modern American identity as this era of the nineteenth century is characterized by a generation of citizens who have only known an autonomous United States, thereby distinguishable as the first purely born and bred American population. With this new status came the need to comprehend what constituted wholly American values beyond just regional, economic, and social distinctions, the remnants of a fractious colonial past. Baseball quickly became part of this new sense of American similitude, labeled the ¿national pastime¿ for nearly its entire existence. As baseball grew from a regional game into a nationwide phenomenon, more drastic change accompanied, by means of money permeating the sport. The five seasons of NAPBBP play from 1871 to 1876 transpired during a decidedly dynamic period of American history. The societal identity formation occurring during the early stages of the Gilded Age corresponds both in time, and essence, with baseball¿s maturation process, culminating in a purely professional NAPBBP. Through analyzing these simultaneous processes, their relation to one another, and the notion of baseball as a microcosm of American society, what characteristics became inherently American, who had the power to actually establish these allegedly universal ideals, and the implications such principles had on the nation¿s population become apparent. Baseball, and more specifically the NAPBBP, offered the principal values of late nineteenth century collective American society.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 20 pp. Englisch.

The founder, Mark Zuckerberg, was named ¿person of the year 2010¿ (Grossman, 2010) by Time magazine and is ranked number 40 on Forbes¿ list of the world¿s most powerful people with a net worth of approximately $13.5 billion (Forbes, 2011). Facebook, the social network this paper is dealing with, has become part of the daily routine of many users sometimes influencing their purchase decisions or even the way they perceive and see the world. Moreover, it has become an Internet brand which can now be regarded to be on an equal level with Amazon, eBay or Google. Without doubt, Facebook has to be regarded as an important feature of growing inter-connectivity which was made possible through the rise and spread of the Internet. The social network enables people to get in touch with each other, find so-called ¿friends¿ all over the world and to create a personal profile representing the user within the Facebook network. Facebook¿s self-stated mission is ¿to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected¿ (Facebook, 2011). Of course this ¿mission¿ is not a revolutionary new idea in the World Wide Web as several social networks and micro blogging websites like MySpace, LinkedIn or Twitter show. Still Facebook is the most widely-known, preferred and fastest growing social network of today¿s world. As a matter of fact it is also often claimed to be the most ¿influential social network¿ (Brennan & Schafer, 2010, p. 19) of our times.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Although the incident occurred during the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, the station was located in a residential area and the Pentagon was informed about its location. International concerns rose up the next weeks and after BBC constantly brought new disclosures about the incident to light, the Pentagon relented and published an official statement in which it confirmed a deliberate destruction. In the eyes of the Pentagon and U.S. government the bombing was legitimate because in their estimation, Al Jazeera is as a part of the propaganda machine of the ¿enemy¿, cooperating with terrorists (Miles 2005, 165-167).About 10 years later things seem to have changed a lot. In March 2011, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that Al Jazeera provided more informative news coverage than the opinion-driven coverage of American mass media (The Huffington Post 2011). However, she is not the only one whose perception about the TV channel seems to have changed in the last years. ¿Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus [¿] and Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, all have appeared on the network's Arabic and English channels in the last year.¿ writes the Los Angeles Times at the end of 2011 and claims that ¿The Obama administration is courting the pan-Arab television network Al Jazeera in an attempt to improve a history of testy relations with one of the most influential news outlets in the Middle East.¿ (Los Angeles Times 2011).Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Against the background of the increasing economic importance of leadership, this assignment investigates what the facets of an authentic leader are. The target group of this assignment are leader who want make itself to a more authentic leader.Today, many companies are facing the problem of having a respected leader who can empower employees to achieve goals. With authentic leadership, a leader is able to make employees to followers, to increase the team performance and to have an open communication. This practice-oriented investigation therefore focuses on communication. Although the effects of communication between sender and receiver are known over the years, leaders often use simple responses rather than showing commitment to employee's needs. To sum up, authentic leadership includes both the 'doing' factor (the way how a leader is doing something) and the 'being' side (the inner attitude). At the end of the day, it is the individuals' behavior that plays a pivotal role in the work climate. The optimization of leadership style is therefore indispensable in our today's business environment.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 32 pp. Englisch.

It might sound unpleasant, as in the case of German accents from the view of some English speakers, or can lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, it is important for learners of English as a second language to pay attention to their pronunciation from the beginning.I will analyse which contrasts between English and German exist and further look into the most common mistakes of learners and misperceptions that lead to a characteristic German accent. We can assume that there are mispronunciations with different degrees of ¿graveness¿, depending on the probability to cause misunderstandings. So in the following, I will turn to the question why pronunciation should not be neglected in teaching and what corrections language teachers should give priority to in the teaching of phonology. The chapter on teaching mainly refers to the teaching of German students in secondary schools. The assumptions can however be transferred onto other teaching situations. I will show that the teaching of pronunciation will always have to be adapted to the learners¿ individual language environment as this is bound to strongly influence their accent.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 24 pp. Englisch.

This includes maintenance and support of desktop software, SAP software as the large-scale back end, web-based applications belonging to the intranet of the Bundeswehr, and communication programs such as IBM¿s Lotus Notes. Siemens will be responsible for operating and modernizing the decentralized systems at more than 1,500 locations in Germany, encompassing 140,000 PCs, 7,000 servers, 300,000 fixed-network telephones and 15,000 mobile phones. In terms of objectives (Newman: 2001), the BWI IT was created predominantly to bear the enormous financial upfront investment of the project. The yearly parliamentary approved defence budgets were neither flexible nor big enough to engage a project of this dimension. The Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI) has been charged with the evaluation of HERKULES. In my functional capacity I have had the opportunity to contribute actively to the performance evaluation to date. This paper outlines the scope and schedule of HERKULES and identifies the major (dis-)advantages of this PPP compared to unilateral public policy implementation. Special focus is given to the question of risk sharing and the project inherent partnership dynamics. Hereafter, potential room for improvement and areas of concern are being analysed. Future Outlook and Conclusion 22Overwork, stress, a high employee turnover and a minimum time for the social life are just some of the negative working conditions for the staff in the tourism and es-pecially in the hospitality industry. Human capital is a carrying pillar within every hospitality business. Employees have to be motivated to increase the customer satisfaction and ensure the economical aims of the enterprise. While the enquiry for the balance between social life and work has been recognized by various industries, the hospitality industry seems backward regarding the implementation of Work-Life Balance, later in the text also abbreviated as WLB, methods. Hospitality businesses have to realize, that the success of the business is no longer just based on natural conditions or advantages of the location or special tourism activities within a destination. The focus has to be more on the human capital. Therefore, the motivation and satisfaction of the employees should be a superior aim for the human resource management within the hospitality industry. (Lee-Ross and Pryce, 2010; Henschel, 2001)Unfortunately, the gap between work and the social life is growing and leads to an enormous enquiry for a balance between these two important points in life. The problems arising out of this current working situation are diverse and reaching from chronically time pressure to a decrease of birth-rates and working mothers. (Esslinger, 2007)Therefore, the importance of this topic shall be discussed for the hospitality industry. The overall purpose of this work shall be the finding of suitable opportunities and instrumentsfor the implementation of Work-Life Balance methods for the hospitalityindustry.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 32 pp. Englisch.

In addition the modern society more and more demands social value of these companies to participate in social development. Corporate Social Responsibility is offered as an approach to handle these challenges, without ignoring the financial survival and the competitiveness of the companies. (Sudarsanam,(1995) p. 1) The first decade of the new millennium was an era of global mega-mergers. Several factors like readily available credit, low interest rates, technological change and global competition fueled M & A activity and in 2007, M & A transactions reached a new record dollar volume worldwide. (DePamphilis(2011) p. 13-14)Mergers and acquisitions are an important means of removing underperformingmanagers or companies and transferring resources to where they are mostneeded. (DePamphilis, (2011) p. 124) However, there is considerable evidencethat many M & A activities remain unsuccessful. Estimated failure rates aretypically between 60 and 80 percent. (Homburg and Bucerius, (2006) p. 347)Due to these high failure rates, it seems unreasonable for a company to engagein an M & A transaction, but still, more and more companies decide to do exactlythat.Given the high failure rates of mergers and acquisitions, this topic is one that is of high significance and has been extensively researched in the past. This paper aims to collect the most important research that has been done on the topic of M & A motive, structure it and emphasize crucial findings. The first part of this paper introduces the reader to the world of mergers andacquisitions. After defining mergers and acquisitions, a brief overview of thevarious types and objectives is given. The next part of the paper informs thereader about the different motives, which may lead executives to engage inM & A transactions. Because shareholder value is essential to almost all firms, it is drawn upon as a framework to organize M & A motives in this paper. The last chapter of this paper summarizes the most important points and emphasizessome of the most crucial factors that make M & A transactions successful. M., language: English, abstract: The changing environment, the massive increase in competition and performance pressures force banks to find new ways to differentiate from competitors. At the same time the utilization of smartphones and mobile internet increased in the last few years. Would a bank get a competitive advantage, if it would offer applications (apps) for its services and products Since the launch of the iPhone in 2007 the mobile phone market has been undergoing a change and a new market segment of smartphones has been created. The market share of smartphones e.g. has increased up to 37.6% in Spain. The numbers of mobile internet users has been strongly rising at the same time. The growth rate reminds of the growth rates in the early days of the internet. Compared to the ¿for free¿ culture in the internet, smartphone users are willing more likely to pay a fee for content or service.Smartphones not only provide traditional telecommunication services, but also short message services, browser and application based services and near-field communication. In order to survive in the competition, banks either have to focus on a strong differentiation or cost leadership. Established banks are unlikely to compete against low-cost banks, so they need to be clearly different from their competitors. They have to consider that their services are oriented on the customer needs. Therefore all banking services have to be aligned with the customer processes. A customer process is characterized as the entire end-to-end process a customer passes through to meet a desired need or to solve a problem until satisfaction is met. During each step of this process, the customer needs support from different suppliers to fulfil all needs of this process. A single process owner does not exist. Instead of this the customer has to get in touch with many different suppliers. Here the bank can act as service integrator to bundle the different interactions. The bank can demonstrate itself as primary contact to the customer via its multiple distribution channels. An app would act as primary communication channel as it becomes the constant companion of the client.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 28 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Bachelor Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,7, University of Stuttgart, language: English, abstract: Die Figur des Vampirs besteht bereits seit Jahrhunderten und hat bis heute nichts an ihrer Anziehungskraft verloren. BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 52 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,3, University of Münster (Institut für Siedlungs- und Wohnungswesen), language: English, abstract: Behavioral economics is a relatively young subdiscipline of economics that has garnered a noticeable amount of attention especially over the last two decades. It seeks to utilize findings from other scientific fields, especially psychology, in order to enhance the plausibility of neo-classical (mainstream) economic models without replacing or abandoning them . The inclusion of psychology into economic thinking is nothing new, however. Instead, it can be traced back to the period of the classical economists of the 18th century. While lacking the rigorous formal approach of today¿s behavioral economists, the conception of the human nature and human decision making was surprisingly sophisticated at the time. For instance, time-inconsistent preferences, which are an important aspect of behavioral economics, have already been examined by David Hume and Adam Smith . Other phenomena, including loss aversion and overconfidence, have also been discussed by classical economists. This thesis has the following structure: Chapter 2 explains a general, quite powerful model of dynamically inconsistent preferences. Special emphasis is placed on real-life examples as well as welfare analysis, including political implications. As we move along, we will constantly compare our findings to the results we would obtain from the neoclassical paradigm. The next two chapters take a closer look at time inconsistencies in the realm of financial decision making. We will examine the behavior of individuals regarding credit card debt in chapter 3, which will require the introduction of another model that is more specifically tailored towards the credit card market. However, the foundations laid out in chapter 2 will be helpful in understanding this second model of inconsistency. Chapter 3 will also discuss recent legislation in credit card markets in the US. In chapter 4, we discuss retirement savings decisions, specifically in the context of the 401(k) retirement plan . After having introduced two models already that explain how people and companies act in certain situations, in the chapter we will discuss several behavioral phenomena that help us explain the motivation behind the decisions of individuals. We will assess the costs and benefits of government interference into the market and the possible measures that might improve the market outcome. Chapter 5 concludes and discusses interesting questions that might be examined further in the future.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 60 pp. Englisch.

(Lincoln)Most of the change management processes break down while only thirty percent of the change management processes are successful. This quotation defines the current problem or better to say the difficulties of organizations in realizing a successful change management nowadays. Thus, it is very important that the organizations create ¿change (they) can believe in¿ like Barack Obama carried out with his numerous successful changes, such as the rapid end to war in Iraq, the decrease in energy dependence and the setting up of universal health care.Seen from a business context, the critical factors and success factors in a change management process will be analyzed on the basis of a fictitious example, the Paradise Hotel in London which is a luxurious five star hotel and a member of SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World). It is a small hotel, organized as a multi-line system, with thirty-five double rooms and forty suites available in different categories as, e.g. junior suite, premium suite and honeymoon suite. Around thirty employees work in this hotel at an average of four to five years.By identifying the critical factors and the success factors of the Paradise Hotel, measures can be taken by the management to implement the single steps of the change management process successfully in the company and thus to achieve the company¿s goal.BoD - Books on Demand, In de Tarpen 42, 22848 Norderstedt 52 pp. Englisch.

This thesis provides a discussion of the main events and arguments that have influenced the debate around the R2P and the principle¿s evolution, namely, the war on terror and the 2003 war in Iraq, the crisis in Darfur, and lastly, U.N. Security Council buy-in regarding the ICISS articulated criteria to guide the use of military force in humanitarian intervention. The thesis is divided into three sections, the first providing a conceptual background to humanitarian intervention. The second part shifts the discussion to the ICISS and the R2P, and the final section focuses on the main factors that have influenced the principle¿s evolution. A central theme underlying the reason for the undertaking of this thesis is the claim that the international system is experiencing a change in the writers/authors of the rules of the system. The argument is built by using the abovementioned main factors influencing the R2P¿s evolution as evidence ¿ the central assertion being that the war in Iraq has weakened the moral standing of the U.S. and the U.K., and has negatively impacted on the credibility of these states as norm carriers. This has not only diminished their ability to build consensus on and commitment to the R2P, but has also engendered widespread hostility and suspicion towards the principle. The result is an international endorsement of the R2P that is substantially different from its initial emergence in the ICISS report, which by many accounts lacks much of the substance which would have enabled a decisive response from the international society to situations where such action is needed most.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 64 pp. Englisch.

Specifically, the thesis asks whether (a) people are willing to pay a premium for Fair Trade products, (b) how much extra they are willing to pay, and (c) which factors influence the consumers¿ willingness to pay. To answer these questions, findings of the most recent quantitative research on Fair Trade are studied. A total of 24 separate empirical papers on Fair Trade and willingness to pay are identified and reviewed. The main results are: (1) about 85% participants are willing to pay a price-premium for Fair Trade products; (2) the price-premium people are willing to pay range from 3% to 80%, with the median of 17%; (3) these values are somewhat lower in studies with more controlled research (i.e., experiments) - the prevalence is 70% and the price-premium 10%; (4) the higher price of Fair Trade products has an inconsistent impact on consumers¿ willingness to pay - for some it remains a significant barrier to the purchase, for others a sign of product credibility; (5) the level of income is insignificant for FT consumption; (6) demographic variables are rather useless for predicting Fair Trade consumption; (7) ethical and environmental values matter; and (8) positive attitudes toward Fair Trade increase consumers¿ buying behavior. Based on these results, implications for marketing are drawn.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 48 pp. Englisch.

Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Spanisch.

The US-company was established in 2008 and has now a substantial customer base in the USA. Neuro Drinks is just in the first steps to launch its products in the European Union, particularly in Germany.Lifestyle beverage products continue to dominate the drink markets worldwide. Though, the offer in Neuro Drinks¿ products is becoming increasingly sophisticated with each passing year and is continuously shifting from basic wellness drinks towards lifestyle- and health oriented drinks for nearly every occasion. Developed markets such as the EU and especially Germany are expected to register maximum demands.Neuro Drinks¿ products are produced in California/United States and each one fulfils a specific demand. This is the main manufacturing characteristic of Neuro Drinks products. Neuro Drinks wants their products to be known as consummate lifestyle culture ¿ this is what the Neuro Drinks brand stands for. Therefore they have to create a high quality image in Germany and the price has to be at the above-average-level of the pricing scale. Neuro Drinks¿ distribution plan in Germany is dual ¿ direct and indirect. This means to establish a retailer network and, on the other hand, an expansion of the website. All in all Neuro Drinks has to offer consistent and high end quality products, meet the market demands and provide superior customer services. But success will always depend on critical assumption and a theoretical assessment cannot guarantee practical success. However, it exists a market potential for Neuro Drinks¿ products as a healthy, lifestyle-oriented and trendy American brand and they have the chance to enter the markets of Germany and the European Union.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 100 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: 1,3, University of applied sciences, Düsseldorf, course: Business economics - Investment and Finance, language: English, abstract: The main scope of this assignment is the valuation of the Lanxess AG a German based chemistry corporation, with about 14,400 employees and annual sales of about 5.05 billion EUR. The core activities of Lanxess AG are specialty chemicals, polymers and intermediates, including rubber chemicals, material protection products, ion exchange resins, inorganic pigments, semi-crystalline products and fine chemicals. The authors have described the two enterprise evaluation methods ¿ the DCF-approach and the multiplier method ¿ with its advantages and disadvantages in practical application. For the corporate evaluation of Lanxess AG, the authors based the calculation on those two most common global evaluation approaches. The DCF method estimates the value of a company by discounting expected cash flows in the future or determined period of time, similar to the value of an investment. For the assessment of the company value, the entity and equity DCF method with an assumed constant growth rate of 3 percent has been applied. For the validation of the calculated DCF corporate values the multiplier method was conducted as second evaluation method based on EBIT-, EBITDA-, Price-Cash Flow-, Price-Earnings, and revenue ratios. For the necessary peer-group, the authors selected six appropriate global competitors: Arkema, BASF, Clariant, DSM, Huntsman and Rhodia. The different evaluation methods lead to various enterprise values of Lanxess AG with a bandwidth of evaluated results between 1.50 billion EUR and the value of 17.98 billion EUR. The DCF-approach results in values from 3.81 billion EUR to 5.81 billion EUR. For the multiplier method there have been calculated enterprise values between 1.5 billion EUR and 17.98 billion EUR. The overall median enterprise value of 3.09 billion EUR compared to the market capitalization of Lanxess AG with 2.19 billion EUR nearly fits into the proposed evaluation strategy but appears undervalued. Each of the described and applied methods has its own validity because of the specific underlying assumptions. Therefore it is not surprising that there a range and difference in the calculated enterprise value for Lanxess AG. The team of this evaluation project for Lanxess AG is satisfied with the results by the given information and data quality. The results confirm that the potential investor should analyse Lanxess AG in detail with proposed various functional due diligences.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 92 pp. Englisch.
