Inside, a previous contemporary owner's annotations in a few of the margins in ink with all pages in very good clean, bright condition if a little yellowed. very nice copy of this first edition which was followed shortly by Appendix to Scriptural Geology ((1840). The scriptural geology movement is described by historians as a reaction among both scientists and theologians to the long-ages models being proposed by geologists in the early nineteenth century. A very scarce book indeed.

Lieutenant Young, who had been with Lvingstone on his second expedition to Lake Malawi in 1863, volunteered to lead an expedition sponsored by the society to ascertain the truth of the allegation.
