Small wear mark on the right side of the front cover. Minor edge wear, scuffs ans scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover. Interior with minor signs of wear.; Catalog published for the exhibition, A Myriad of Autumn Leaves: Japanese Art from the Kurt and Millie Gitter Collection, held at the New Orleans Museum of Art, November 13, 1983-January 15, 1984 and at The Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, February 15-April 22, 1984.; "This is the second exhibition that the New Orleans Museum of Art has organized of works from the Gitter collection. The first, Zenga and Nanga Paintings by Japanese Monks and Scholars, was presented in 1976 and focused on artists of two particular schools of the Edo Period. The present exhibition, which includes only one work from the first show (the great Virtue calligraphy by the monk Hakuin), is broader in scope, with paintings from nearly all the major schools of the period, as well as ceramics and sculpture. However this exhibition also reflects the personal tastes and passions of the collectors. Works of the Nanga and Zenga schools predominate in the selection of paintings. The Gitters have a special admiration for three artists, who are among the greatest Japan has produced: Ike Taiga, Yosa Buson, and Hakuin Ekaku. These masters are represented in the exhibition by, respectively, seven, four, and five works each. Thus the exhibition retains the personal flavor of a private collection, while presenting a survey of Edo painting." excerpt from the preface.
