Melmoth's fictionalized letters, first published under a pseudonym in 1748, were highly successful, and include a number addressed to his wife 'Cleora'. Born in 1710, Melmoth occupied himself mainly with classical translation, and became one of the most prolific and successful practitioners of his day.

Covers with some rubbing, slight worming to first and last few pages near lower gutter (not affecting text) slight edge wear and repair to folding map and one plate, otherwise very good.
