Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Visible splitting to joints. Spine has heavier tanning with soft splitting, fraying and crushing to ends. In black unlettered box, unworn with just a couple or so utterly trivial small surface marks and surface rubbings. Am a bit puzzled by Burnaby being given as translator as Pert1. t.p. has 'Made English by Wilson of the Middle Temple and several others.Uncommon in UK. 18 cm x 28 cm.

Illustrated with red and black reproductions of paintings by Bagnani. Considered one of the first novels, Petronius details the mishap adventures of Encolpius (the narrator) and Giton, his young male lover. The only other remaining Roman novel is Metamorphoses by Lucius Apuleius. The Monthly Letter of The Limited Editions Club of August 1964 laid-in. Signed by the artist on the colophon. Shelf wear to slipcase. Overall very good condition.
