Wraps. Zustand: Very good. 48 p. Includes illustrations. Most illustrations in color From Wikipedia: "Crawford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of 2010, the population was 88, 765. Crawford County was created on March 12, 1800, from part of Allegheny County and named for Colonel William Crawford. Its county seat is Meadville. The entire county makes up the Meadville, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area." Also from Wikipedia: "Meadville is a city in and the county seat of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, United States. The city is within 40 miles of Erie, Pennsylvania and 90 miles of Pittsburgh, PA. It was the first permanent settlement in northwest Pennsylvania. The population was 13, 388 at the 2010 census. ] The city of Meadville is part of the Meadville, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. Meadville was founded on May 12, 1788 by a party of settlers led by David Mead. Its location was chosen well, for it lies at the confluence of Cussewago Creek and French Creek, and is only a day's travel by boat to the safety of Ft. Franklin. Their settlement was in a large meadow, first cleared by Native Americans led by Chief Custaloga, and well suited for growing maize. The village Custaloga built here was known as Cussewago. The neighboring Iroquois and Lenape befriended the isolated settlement, but their enemies, including the Wyandots, were not so amiable. The threat of their attacks caused the settlement to be evacuated for a time in 1791. Around 1800, many of the settlers to the Meadville area came after receiving land bounties for service in the Revolutionary War. Allegheny College, the second oldest college west of the Allegheny Mountains, was founded in Meadville in 1815 and is the oldest college west of the Allegheny Mountains that has kept its original name. Meadville became an important transportation center after construction of the French Creek Feeder Canal in 1837 and of the Beaver and Erie Canal it connected to at Conneaut Lake and subsequent railroad development. Meadville Theological School was established in 1844 by a wealthy businessman and Unitarian named Harm Jan Huidekoper. It moved to Chicago in 1926. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries Meadville played a small part in the Underground Railroad helping escaping slaves to freedom. An event in September 1880 led to the end of segregation by race in the state's public schools. At the South Ward schools, Elias Allen tried unsuccessfully to enroll his two children. He appealed to the Crawford County Court of Common Pleas, and Judge Pearson Church declared unconstitutional the 1854 state law mandating separate schools for Negro children. This law was amended, effective July 4, 1881, to prohibit such segregation. By the late 19th century, Meadville's economy was also driven by logging, agriculture, and iron production. The Talon Corporation, headquartered in Meadville, played a major role in the development of the zipper. Since the clothing industry was largely unaffected by the Great Depression, the community saw a population boom at that time. During World War II, the nearby Keystone Ordnance plant brought additional jobs to the area. After the war, Meadville's industrial growth continued. Talon remained a major employer, along with the Erie Railroad, American Viscose (later known as Avtex Fibers), Channellock tools, and Dad's Pet Food. In the 1980s, the Great Lakes region saw a decline in heavy industry. By the early 1990s, Channellock and Dad's were the only large companies operating in Meadville. This blow to the local economy was softened by subsequent surge in light industry, mainly tool and die machine shops, earning Meadville the nickname Tool City, USA. The area has seen growth in the 1990s and first decade of the 21st century. The song "Bittersweet Motel" by Vermont jam band, Phish, was inspired when keyboardist, Page McConnell, left a wedding in Meadville and drove down to the Pittsburgh Airport. In addition to the Meadville Downtown Historic District, th.

Wraps. Zustand: Very good. Jeremy Hess Photographers (illustrator). 84 p. Includes: illustrations, maps. From Wikipedia: "Gettysburg is a borough in and the county seat of Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States, and the eponym for the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg and President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The town hosts visitors to the Gettysburg National Battlefield in the Gettysburg National Military Park and has three institutions of higher learning: Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg College, and Harrisburg Area Community College. Many roads radiate from Gettysburg, providing hub-like access to Washington, D.C. 75 miles (121 km), Baltimore 55 miles (89 km), Harrisburg 37 miles (60 km), Carlisle 27 miles (43 km), Frederick and Hagerstown, Maryland 32 miles (51 km) and Hanover, Pennsylvania 14 miles (23 km). York is 30 miles (48 km) east on the Lincoln Highway (U.S. Route 30) and Chambersburg is 25 miles (40 km) west on the Lincoln Highway (U.S. Route 30), the first transcontinental U.S. highway. Today the borough is a 21? 2 hour drive from Philadelphia and a 31? 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh via the Pennsylvania Turnpike and U.S. Route 15. Gettysburg Regional Airport, a small general aviation airport, is located 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Gettysburg. Samuel Gettys settled on the Shippensburg Baltimore and Philadelphia Pittsburgh cross roads with a 1761 tavern where soldiers and traders came to rest, and to the southwest is the 1776 Dobbin House Tavern within the subsequent 1786 border established for the borough. After a "Strabane" township location between Hunter's and Getty's towns was planned as the county seat in 1790. In 1791, Revd. Alexander Dobbin and David Moore Sr. were appointed trustees for the county of Adams to erect public buildings in Gettysburg" The founder of the Studebaker Corporation was born 1833 in Gettysburg. In 1858 the Gettysburg Railroad completed construction of a railroad line from Gettysburg to Hanover. The Gettysburg Railroad Station opened in 1859. Passenger train service to the town ended in 1942. The station was restored in 2006. In 2011, Senator Robert Casey introduced S. 1897, which would include the railroad station within the boundary of Gettysburg National Military Park. By 1860, the borough "had ~450 buildings [which] housed carriage manufacturing, shoemakers, and tanneries". In June 2009, the Adams County Transit Authority implemented local transportation service to the borough operating under the name Freedom Transit In June 2011, a Rabbit Transit commuter bus to Harrisburg began service. The Battle of Gettysburg, one of the largest battles during the American Civil War, was fought between 1 3 July 1863 across the fields and heights south of the town. In the end, Confederate General Lee and his other generals retreated. Casualties were high; there were over 27, 000 Confederate, and 31, 000 Union losses. The residents of Gettysburg were left to care for the wounded and bury the dead following the Confederate retreat. Approximately 8, 000 men and 3, 000 horses lay under the summer sun. The soldiers' bodies were gradually reinterred in what is today known as Gettysburg National Cemetery, where, on November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln attended a ceremony to officially consecrate the grounds and delivered his famous Gettysburg Address. A 20-year-old woman, Ginnie Wade, was the only civilian killed during the battle. She was hit by a stray bullet that passed through her kitchen door while she was making bread on July 3. Physical damage can still be seen in some of the houses throughout the town, notably the Schmucker House located on Seminary Ridge." Presumed first edition/first printing thus.

Wraps. Zustand: Very good. No dust jacket. 32 p. Includes: illustrations, maps. Illustrations in color. This issue features the country trip, Lady Antebellum on the cover with an article inside. From Wikipedia: "Columbia County is a county located in the US state of Georgia along the Savannah River. As of the 2010 census the population was 124, 053 a growth of 38.9% from the 2000 census figure of 89, 288. The de jure county seat is Appling. Appling is an unincorporated area, making Columbia one of only lhree counties in Georgia to have an unincorporated county seat. The de facto county seat, the location of Columbia County's government and courts, is Evans, also an unincorporated area. For more than a decade, there have been discussions by county officials to incorporate the county into a city. This issue first became moot in 1996 when the city of Augusta and Richmond County consolidated their governments. A state law mandating three mile buffer zones between cities effectively halted any efforts for Columbia County to incorporate, as it was contiguous to Augusta-Richmond County. In 2005, talks of incorporating the county into a city resurfaced when the Georgia state legislature abolished the three mile buffer zone, thus allowing Sandy Springs in North Fulton County to become a city. Columbia County Commission Chairman, Ron Cross, led a campaign to bring the idea of county incorporation back to life. However, it was referred to as "consolidation, " since counties in Georgia alone cannot incorporate, but can rather consolidate with an existing municipality within the county. The plan was to hold a referendum to incorporate Evans into a city (currently a census-designated place and home to most county government offices) and then simultaneously consolidate it with Columbia County. The initiative drew strong opposition from officials in Harlem and Grovetown, the county's only municipalities, citing that it would keep their cities from growing. The word "consolidation" also had an immediate negative connotation with many residents of Columbia County, seeing the example of the Augusta-Richmond County plagued with unintended consequences. A straw poll conducted during the county Republican Party primary election, showed strong opposition to the idea countywide. The County Commission Chairman Ron Cross has vowed to keep the issue alive, but based on the negative sentiment from voters, it appears that at least for now, the idea of incorporation is back in hibernation.".

Zustand: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. The format is approximately 11 inches by 8.5 inches. The single sheet is a tri-fold, resulting in six panels (three per side). Illustrations on two panels. Text on all six panels. This is a rare surviving piece of early Twenty-First Century local community ephemera. Among the key words extracted from the brochure are Paducah, Kentucky, Tourism, Visitors, Calendar, Events, Steamboats, Port, Riverfront, Downtown, Farmers Market, International Raceway, Concerts, Harness Racing, Entertainments, Arts, National Quilt Museum, County Fair, Baseball, Vintner, and Glen Campbell. In 1950, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission selected Paducah as the site for a new uranium enrichment plant. Construction began in 1951 and the plant opened for operations in 1952. Originally operated by Union Carbide, the plant has changed hands several times. Martin Marietta, its successor company Lockheed-Martin, and now the United States Enrichment Corporation have operated the plant in turn. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), successor to the AEC, remains the owner. The plant was closed in June 2013, and the Department of Energy began the process of decontaminating and shutting down the facilities. On April 25, 1991, the National Quilt Museum opened in downtown Paducah. Paducah has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the category of craft and folk art since November 2013. The national quilt show takes place yearly at the Schroeder Expo Center. Paducah is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of McCracken County, Kentucky, United States. The largest city in the Jackson Purchase region, it is located in the Southeastern United States at the confluence of the Tennessee and the Ohio rivers, halfway between St. Louis, Missouri, to the northwest and Nashville, Tennessee, to the southeast. As of the 2020 census, the population was 27,137, up from 25,024 in 2010. Twenty blocks of the city's downtown have been designated as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Paducah is the principal city of the Paducah metropolitan area, which includes McCracken, Ballard, Carlisle and Livingston counties in Kentucky and Massac County in Illinois. Paducah was first settled as "Pekin" around 1821 by European Americans James and William Pore. The town was laid out by explorer and surveyor William Clark in 1827 and renamed Paducah. Historians believe that Clark named the town for the Comanche people of the western plains. They were known by regional settlers as the Padoucas, from a Spanish transliteration of the Kaw word Pádoka or the Omaha Pádo ka. Paducah was formally established as a town in 1830 and incorporated as a city by the state legislature in 1838. The city charter was drafted by Quintus Quincy Quigley and H. Clay King in 1856. By this time, steam boats traversed the river system, and its port facilities were important to trade and transportation. In addition, developing railroads began to enter the region. A factory for making red bricks, and a foundry for making rail and locomotive components became the nucleus of a thriving "River and Rail" economy. Paducah became the site of dry dock facilities for steamboats and towboats, and thus headquarters for many barge companies. Because of its proximity to coalfields further to the east in Kentucky and north in Illinois, Paducah also became an important railway hub for the Illinois Central Railroad. This was the primary north-south railway connecting the industrial cities of Chicago and East St. Louis to the Gulf of Mexico at Gulfport, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana. The Illinois Central system also provided east-west links to the Burlington Northern and the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railways (which later merged to become the BNSF Railway). As steam locomotives were replaced through the 1940s and 1950s, the Paducah shops were converted to maintain diesel locomotives. A nationally known rebuilding program for aging diesel locomotives from Illinois Centra.
