The cover is rubbed and bumped at the edges and corners, and the spine has long tears along the outer hinges. Strips of scotch tape were stuck over the spine of the book at the top and bottom. There is a small private library stamp on the title page. This and other pages have water marks and some pages are slightly foxed. Overall, the interior is still in good condition and the printed image is clear. Book from a non smoking environment. Bell'insieme con sporadiche impercettibili fioriture in legatura coeva mezza pelle avana, titoli su tasselli ai dorsi. Due cerniere lievemente fessurate. Seconda edizione; impressa su consenso dell'autore e con le revisioni del prof. S. Longhena, di questa vasta e dettagliata indagine storica. L'A. critica nella prefazione l'edizione pirata fiorentina del 1827 e la susseguente necessità di procedere alla presente stesura corretta e ampliata ma senza l'aggiunta dell'atlante (previsto viceversa nella prima edizione). Dopo una lunga disamina sulla situazione politica e militare spagnola nel XVIII secolo, narra il coinvolgimento dei militari italiani durante le guerre di occupazione napoleonica nei territori spagnoli. Com'è noto la politica di conquista napoleonica verso ovest fu cronologicamente l'ultima a essere intrapresa, permettendo la massima espansione del dominio francese, che raggiunse per pochi mesi il numero di ben 134 dipartimenti.

Este mapa fue elaborado por Camillo Vacani, mariscal del ejército austríaco, escritor y diplomático, quien documentó la historia de las campañas y los asedios de los italianos durante la Guerra de la Independencia española (1808-1814). Este plano militar detallado de la ciudad de Tortosa y sus alrededores muestra el asedio y toma de la ciudad por las tropas napoleónicas, dirigidas por el mariscal Suchet, en diciembre de 1810, en su esfuerzo por controlar el bajo Ebro y las comunicaciones entre Cataluña y Valencia. El plano representa con minuciosidad tanto la trama urbana como el relieve mediante líneas de nivel concéntricas (una técnica avanzada para la época), mostrando claramente las posiciones artilleras, trincheras, baterías, caminos de acceso y puntos estratégicos utilizados por las fuerzas francesas e italianas en la toma de la ciudad.
