Final Draft script for the 1974 film. Laid in are six blue revision pages dated 2/26/73. Based on the 1942 novel "The Stranger" by Lillian Bos Ross. Later re-released under the title, "For Better, For Worse." Gene Hackman stars as a rural rancher who sends away for a mail-order bride, looking for an extra ranch hand. His headstrong bride, played by Liv Ullman, is a tough bargain, and the two eventually fall in love through shared hardship and growing respect. An early effort of screenwriter Marc Norman, twenty-five years before he would receive an Oscar for his work on "Shakespeare in Love." Set in a remote region of the American West, shot on location in Big Sur, California. Orange titled wrappers, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, dated February 26, 1973.
