hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. Gwasg Gregynog: A Descriptive Catalogue of Printing at Gregynog 1970-1990, Compiled by David Esslemont and Glyn Tegai Hughes â" 1st Edition Publication: Newtown, Powys, Gwasg Gregynog, 1990 Formatting: 4to, pp. xii, 74, [2]. Condition Report: Near Fine. The volume remains tightly bound and completely square, with the spine free of any creasing, rolling, or fading. The grey paper wrappers are notably clean and bright, exhibiting only the most trivial touches of rubbing to the extremities and a minuscule bump to the head of the spine. Internally, the pages are uniformly crisp, unblemished, and entirely free from foxing, ensuring the typography and delicate tipped-in illustrations retain their original vibrancy. A highly attractive and well-preserved copy. Catalogue Note: This is a limited edition, one of 900 total copies printed, with this copy being one of the 755 standard copies bound in stiff card covers and wrapped in a printed grey paper dust wrapper with French flaps. The catalogue provides an essential bibliography of the press's output over a twenty-year period, covering books, booklets, and over one hundred items of ephemera. The entries include meticulous details on edition sizes, typefaces, presses used, papers, bindings, and prices. The work is lavishly illustrated with forty-one examples taken directly from the press's publications, including striking wood engravings by prominent artists such as Sarah van Niekerk, Peter Reddick, and Christopher Wormell. The inclusion of several tipped-in specimens further elevates the volume, serving not merely as a reference work but as a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of the Gregynog Press. Despite the limitation, standard wrapper-bound copies appear with moderate frequency on the open market, making it an accessible yet vital addition for collectors of modern British private press and typography. An indispensable reference for enthusiasts of fine press printing, this meticulously compiled catalogue celebrates two decades of remarkable craftsmanship at Gwasg Gregynog. Beyond a simple bibliography, it offers a visually striking journey through the press's history, illuminated by insightful notes and a wealth of intricate wood engravings, linocuts, and tipped-in specimens from leading artists and designers of the period. Sarah van Niekerk, Peter Reddick, George Tute, Colin Paynton, Christopher Wormell, et al. (illustrator). …

No Binding. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition. 38x32cm (mount size), five mounted wood engravings printed from the blocks. Copy 210 of 250, each print thus numbered, titled and signed in pencil by the artists, with accompanying large sheet of explanatory text folded to 4pp also bearing the copy number in pencil, all in a blue cloth-covered solander box lined with patterned paper printed letterpress from line blocks to a design by Simon Brett, paper title-labels to the front and spine. Perhaps the greatest of all the editioned sets of prints done by Simon Lawrence, and a legendary Fleece Press scarcity. The only one of the 107 bibliographic entries in All Around the Block that was altogether absent from the list of out-of-print titles offered by him on the occasion of the Press's closure in 2024. Magnificent wood engravings - of the large woodland scene 'Beeches' by Peter Reddick, Simon says '[it] was his largest engraving, and as good as anything he ever did'. But perhaps the greatest prize in the set is the Monica Poole engraving, her work now being sought-after and valued by the market to an extent far beyond her contemporary artists in the medium. Here titled 'Spring 1988', this block was also printed in a separate edition of 100 entitled 'Spring after The Hurricane', and like much of her work is now achieving four-figure market prices. Fine (a single tiny blemish to one corner of the mount of the Peter Smith engraving) in a Near Fine (slight whitening to the corner tips of the cloth, as usual) box. All Around the Block FP23.
