He was born in Ålesund. He is represented in several public art collections in Norway. He has been member of the board of the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art and of Oslo Kunstforening. In 1992 he was awarded the city of Ålesund's art prize --- This book is published by the De La Warr Pavilion on the occasion of Kjell Torriset's exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion 1 March - 1 June 2003. - The De La Warr Pavilion is a Grade One listed building designed by Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff in 1935. It is situated on the seafront in Bexhill, East Sussex. It is a major regional centre for contemporary visual arts, architecture and live performance. - The exhibition was sponsored by The Royal Norwegian Embassy, London. The exhibition was officially opened by the Norwegian Ambassador Mr. Tarald O. Brautaset. There are two bonus items that accompany this book. The first is a newspaper clipping about the opening and the exhibition and has a picture of the Artist and the Norwegian Ambassador.
