In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Good.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This truly international book brings together authors from different regions of the world including North America, South Africa, Europe, Iran and Russia all of whom are concerned with aspects of the challenges involved in the expansion of higher education, both in student numbers and areas of… study. Some are concerned about the loss of guiding principles which steered university education for centuries. The traditional purposes of higher education have come under such pressure that we have achieved 'conflicting models of the university' (Claes) and 'ambiguity' in regard to teaching and research (Simons et al). For others, the problems are at a different stage. Contributions from South Africa look at three challenges: Can we provide enough places in higher education How do we deal with institutional mergers How do we make staff development effective in a situation in which English is the first language of less than five percent of the staff Young scholars in Russian regions face formidable hurdles in achieving academic careers while the best law graduates in Canada are faced with the ethical dilemma of personal career advancement or social justice (Topsakal). The problem of integrating nursing into a traditional Irish university is reviewed by Grant while the role of a university in regional development is addressed from a Greek perspective by Papaelias et al. The comparative international approach features in research into teacher job satisfaction in India and Iran while McMahon reviews the impact of the Bologna Process.

In den WarenkorbThis beautiful book focuses on the 12 year period that Sahlin spent as designer for the prestigious Kosta Boda glassworks, a period that saw the internationally renowned glass company leap into bold new directions. Not a craftsman herself, Sahlin brought with her a host of ideas from unrelated disciplines and her experiments tes…ted the limits of traditional concepts in glass design. Along with the craftsmen and glassblowers, she created extraordinary works of lasting beauty. Stunning images of her work presented in a playful, creative, and personal layout make this book an aesthetic delight. , English, YearNo year, Illust. B/W70, Illust. Any working art critic inevitably acquires an extensive knowledge of this genre of printed ephemera. Heralding gallery and museum shows, invitations flood the mailbox, crowd the desk and all too often accumulate so intractably on the kitchen counter as to seem part of the decor. You can't live with them, and until the show is over, you can't throw them out. Still, life without such art-world byproducts would be a lot more difficult. Not only do they convey the important facts -- the who, when and where -- of shows that need to be seen. They're also advertisements bent on seducing us into attendance by being clever, eye-catching or provocative -- although sometimes they nip interest in the bud. (There's probably no art lover with mailing-list credentials who hasn't held up some gallery announcement and said, "Forget it!") Invitations are style statements in a minor key, ancillary artworks of a collective sort. Designed by artists, by graphic designers, by art dealers and museum curators -- usually a combination of the above -- they are the advance guard for the real thing. Their merit is judged in the very act of reading one's mail." -- Roberta Smith, "Art Invitations As Small Scraps Of History," New York Times, May 16, 1993. Very Good. Light edge wear. Contents clean and unmarked.
