This is a biography of the English poet John Clare (1793-1864). The son of a farm labourer, he became known for his celebrations of the English countryside and sorrows at its disruption. His work underwent major re-evaluation in the late 20th century, and he is now seen by many as a major 19th-century poet. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the boards. The spine is faded and the spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with some notes written in pencil on the rear fixed endpaper and a name has been written in ink on the front free endpaper.
