A nice work that follows the course of the River Severn from its source, through Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire, just over 10 inches tall, bound in in the original drab boards , with the original paper spine title labels still present, pages edges untrimmed, complete… with all the fifty two plates, though the list calls for one of Llanidloes which was never produced, the covers have some signs of wear and light marks, some vertical splits to the cloth along spine length, though binding still solid, internally foxing and browning to endpapers, a few occasional small marks else contents generally nice and clean. A nice set in its original untouched state. Samuel Ireland (illustrator).

In Volume I, the plate listed in the index to face p. 17, " View near Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire," was never issued. Collated, complete. A historical and topographical journey following the River Severn from its source in the Welsh mountains through the border counties, describing the towns, castles, churches, abbeys, estates and landscapes encountered along its course. Samuel Ireland (1744-1800) was an English engraver, draughtsman and writer particularly known for his illustrated picturesque tours of British rivers. A charming illustrated historical and topographical survey of the Severn, tracing its course through Wales and the English border counties. Bound in a half calf binding with cloth covered boards.Externally, generally smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in minor loss to calf, more so to spine ends. Very slight cracking to upper extremities of joints. Slight fading to perimeters of boards with on or two very light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd light spot and light marginal age toning. Small paper repair to the lower margin of the plate depicting Llanthony Priory. Very Good.
