See photos for condition details: hardcover with dust jacket, volume 2 ONLY which contains the photos and illustrations. The dust jacket is heavily worn and scuffed numerous tears and chips. Light brown cloth boards underneath are clean but there is some bumping and toning, mainly on the edges and corners. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. No handwriting or personal markings found. Pages are a bit toned along the edges and the end pages and pastedowns also show toning and minor spotting. The publisher's ribbon bookmark is still present and attached. Please note: this is volume 2 only of a two-volume set.

Comme son titre l'indique, elle constitue un pendant aux Zpevy stare Ciny de Bohumil Mathesius, mais il ne s'agit pas d'un simple equivalent. Contrairement aux traductions de Mathesius, qui s'appuyaient sur une troisieme langue, toutes les poesies de ce recueil sont traduites directement du chinois. L'auteur, Ferdinand Stoces, a realise un veritable exploit : chaque poeme de cette collection est authentiquement attribue a son auteur. Il ne s'agit donc pas de contrefacons conscientes, comme cela a ete le cas pour de nombreux textes utilises par Mathesius. Cette "histoire presque policiere" est egalement exploree en detail dans la preface eclairante qui accompagne cette traduction revelatrice. Le livre est enrichi de magnifiques variations sur des motifs chinois, ce qui en fait une oeuvre veritablement somptueuse.

Na rozdil od Mathesiovych prekladu, ktere byly porizovany vzdy s pomoci tretiho "pomocneho" jazyka (napr. francouzstiny ci rustiny), jsou vsechny basne v teto knize prelozeny primo z cinstiny. Navic se autoru Ferdinandu Stocesovi podaril vpravde husarsky kousek kazda basen v teto sbirce je skutecnym dilem basnika, jemuz je pripisovana. V zadnem pripade se tedy nejedna o vedome podvrhy, jak tomu v mnoha pripadech bylo u textu, z nichz vychazel Bohumil Mathesius. O teto "historii takrka detektivni" se ostatne mnoho zajimaveho doctete v zasvecene predmluve, jiz Ferdinand Stoces svuj objevny preklad opatril.
