British civil servant (1884-1958), controller of public relations at the BBC from 1935 to 1940. Two pages, 4to. Very good, but with minor traces of tape adhering to two edges. Marked 'Private & Personal'. He thanks his correspondent for writing so fully and heartily sympathizes. 'Practically, I am not at all clear what the issue of the delay will be so far as I, and so far as Ryan, are concerned. The B.B.C. job [.] has been announced sooner than was intended & has not lightened my day's work. Ryan is uncertain when he will get away, but may be off at the beginning of August.' The plate listed as facing page 208 to show the Irish Guards in the Trenches has mistakenly been replaced with a duplicate illustration of Hyde Farm that faces page 198. Sir Stephen George Tallents (1884-1958) was a British civil servant and public relations expert. In 1918 he became chief delegate for the Supply of Relief to Poland, and in February 1919 he was appointed British Commissioner for the Baltic Provinces during the British intervention in that region and helped draw up the treaty that established Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. He was Imperial Secretary for Northern Ireland, 1922 to 1926, but is probably best known for his work as the secretary of the Empire Marketing Board between 1926 and 1933. The book is bound in the original red-brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The spine is faded and there is lighter fading along about 1" of the top and fore edges of the front board. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.…
