The granddaddy of all modern vigilante movies, and a watershed film for rugged American icon Charles Bronson, who had roles in many crime and adventure films prior to 1974, but met with destiny as an iceman. The series became a franchise, with Bronson's character falling deeper into a typecast mold with each outing. Based on the 1972 crime novel, "The Procane Chronicle," by Ross Thomas (writing as Oliver Bleeck). The first of no fewer than ten films director J. Lee Thompson would make with badass Charles Bronson, and ironically, one of the last with a major studio behind it. The pair would go on to make taut, violent potboilers such as "10 to Midnight" (1983), "The Evil That Men Do" (1984), and "Murphy's Law" (1986).
