Wer höher wuchs, wer dem Himmel näher kam, empfing auch genügend Sonnenlicht. Es mag modernere Werkstoffe mit hochspezialisierten Eigenschaften geben, aber das Holz ist in seiner Universalität und Schönheit durch nichts erreicht worden. Es ist seit Jahrtausenden modern. Holz ist für uns heute vor allem ein »nachwachsender Rohstoff«, oft bis zur Unkenntlichkeit malträtiert und achtlos als Massenware verheizt. Dabei steckt in ihm der Geist, Leben und Kraft wie in keinem zweiten Material. Der Fotograf Anselm Spring beobachtet das Holz seit dem ersten Film, den er in eine Kamera legte.
