Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: As New. 1st Edition. Light wear to the dust jacket. Temporary Discomfort is artist Jules Spinatsch's documentation of three cities in a transitory state of emergency lock-down during two global economic summits (WEF and G8). It comines different photographical genres: landscape photography of the site, photojournalism, and police photography, but with the camera lens turned, atypically, on the security forces. The photo series and videos aim to achieve a speculative reconstruction of the situations in Davos, New York, Genoa and Evian/Geneva, while they also ask questions about the conditions under which photography is and can be produced today. Spinatsch's position while working on the project was that of an informed outsider--his presence in the area around the meetings was acknowledged by the security forces but not really appreciated, which was one the factors that determined his work. Spinatsch's new approach to documentary photography is theorized here by essayist Martin Jaeggi and presented through beautiful photographs with strong political undertones.

Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 24 x 30 cm, 9 ½ x 11 ¾ in, 186 Seiten/pages, 115 Abbildungen/illustrations - Jules Spinatsch was at the World Economic Forum and also attended the G8 summits at Davos and Evian. But rather than street fighting and handshakes, Jules Spinatsch shows winter nights in Davos, complete with floodlighted barbed wire, containers being used as barricades in Genoa, lonely TV reporters outside broadcast vehicles and sleepy guards in New York. Temporary Discomfort shows people waiting for the big event, which is revealed as meticulously planned down to the last detail. Winner of the Prix du Livre, Rencontres d Arles 2005 Best Photography Book.

Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Signed in black marker verso the rear free endpaper by Spinatsch. Hardcover. Photographically illustrated paper-covered boards. Photographs by Jules Spinatsch. Text (in English) by Sam Samore. Essay (in German and English) by Gianni Jetzer. Includes a list of plates, brief biography and chronology. 224 pp., with 130 four-color plates (numerous full-bleed and two-page spreads), and 10 black and white full-bleed two-page spreads, printed on fine coated matte paper in Switzerland by Stämpfli AG, Bern. 9-5/8 x 6-3/4 inches. Fine. From the essay by Gianni Jetzer: "The pictures Jules Spinatsch takes have multiple meanings. They contain reality and also what is hidden beneath it. You invent them and they reflect you. You find them and, in their openness, they seek you. Embracing high-rise buildings. LOVE scratched on the skin of the city. Two chairs wrestling with each other in reunited Berlin. A lonely bottle. The high-rise is sweating. In obvious contrast to the man in the air-conditioned limo, a Chaplinesque hint of Hitler on his face. Fish on tour. A snow cannon as a monument. Hardened concrete stars flowing. Materials touch. Clouds. Airplanes. Bright. Jules Spinatsch fills his camera with pictures of life, like a botanist filling his herbarium, and then pours them out again as a river of color. Many of these shots (especially by night) shine in their chomatographic wetness like mirrored brake lights after a downpour." Signed by Author.

Jules Spinatsch's recent installation in "New Photography 2006" at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, included a wall of photographs, with multiple video monitors (with looped video made at 2001-2003 WEF and G8 global economic summits) separating the viewers from the photographs, successfully capturing the essence of "surveillance" concurrently from the outsider and insider perspectives. a brilliant effect in addressing issues of political and economic power!
