The first edition of this scarce work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front free end paper, dated 1909. A study of accidental injuries to workmen, with an analysis of to the Workmen's Compensation Act of 1906, passed three years before the publication of this book. This work was written to assist with cases of accidental injury, making reports, and giving evidence to claim compensation. Included is an article on injuries to the "organs of special sense" (such as the ears and eyes) by Cecil E. Shaw, and a legal introduction by Thomas J. Campbell.Eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, though a little faded, with faint marks to the boards. Alfred Thomas Fripp (1899-1995) Orthopaedic surgeon, "was born in London in 1899. He was the son of Sir Alfred Fripp (Lives 1930-51), a surgeon at Guy's Hospital and Surgeon-in-Ordinary to both King Edward VII and King George V. He served in the first world war, enlisting as a second lieutenant and seeing action in France. After the war he trained at Oxford and Guy's, qualifying in 1924. He specialised in orthopaedics and was appointed consultant surgeon to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in 1934. One of his special interests was the surgery of club foot, and he wrote a well-known and well-used book on the subject. He was always an innovative surgeon and, at the age of 60, he helped to develop the transthoracic approach for treating tuberculosis of the spine." Royal College of Surgeons of England.…
