Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. From Preface: "This book is elementary - it tells what the great host of radio followers want to know about their receiving sets and the invisible waves which carry entertainment to them. Radio in this book is stripped of technicalities and the story is told so that everybody can understand and enjoy it." Condition: Boards have a lot of scuffing and wear. Pages are clean and have some foxing to edges. Binding is secure.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Reprint. (no dust jacket, as issued) [minor spotting on front cover, otherwise a nice tight clean book; NOT ex-library]. (History of Broadcasting: Radio to Television) Series (B&W photo frontispiece, other photos) Facsimile reprint of the 1932 edition, published by Harper & Brothers. The author was the radio editor of the New York Times, and the author of numerous tomes about the radio business. The frontispiece is a portrait photo of Guglielmo Marconi, reproducing his inscription to the author. The book's Foreword is by the legendary William S. Paley, President of the Columbia Broadcasting System. Also includes an interesting "Epilogue," in which "the possible effect of television on various fields of human activitity is discussed" by a group of luminaries including Real Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Dr. Lee De Forest and S.L. Rothafel (Roxy), the latter stating that "already in our plans for Radio City, television is given a place [and] I am inclined to believe that in five years, because our scientists work with such amazing rapidity these days, the stage and television will be one." The Appendix includes "Calendar of Wireless-Radio-Television," with significant dates from 640 B.C. to April 7, 1932, and a list of TV stations in the U.S. (all 38 of them) and Canada (7). Index. 0-405-03564-0.

Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. RADIO IN ADVERTISING BY ORRIN E. DUNLAP JR. HARPER & BROS 1931 1ST EDITION. Here is another of the many vintage books currently listed about radio technology and operations. This one, quite a scarce item in the book trade, is titled: Radio in Advertising, by Orrin E. Dunlap, Jr. who at the time was the Radio Editor of the New York Times. The book opens with a Foreword by David Sarnoff, then President of the Radio Corporation of America. This medium-sized hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches, 383 pages) was published by Harper & Brothers of New York, dated 1931 and the First Edition (so stated). The book is bound in finely ribbed maroon cloth with gilt titles on cover and spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are clean and bright, front and rear with bright gilt titles on the cover. The gilt titles on the spine are faded or tarnished and hard to read and the spine itself seems darkened. Inside, a former owner has left his inked name on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. There is some very light and slight foxing to some of the early pages but not beyond the first page of the text and there is no real age-toning. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
