Incisione originale su rame (mm 396 x 540 ed ampi margini) su carta vergellata, ad opera di Adriaan Schoonebeek, incisore olandese attivo ad Amsterdam dal 1688 e divenuto famoso con i ritratti di alcune personalità politiche e religiose, tra cui Alessandro VIII Ottoboni, eletto Papa nel 1689. Nell'incisione viene rappresentato il conclave al termine del quale venne eletto proprio Pietro Alessandro VIII, raffigurato in un cammeo in alto a sinistra. Subito sotto "nette en naauwkeurige afbeelding der flatte gron vant conclave" ("nitida e accurata rappresentazione del pianoro del conclave") e ?nevens de loting der cellen mitsgaders de bediening een ceremonien na t'afsterven ent verkiezen van een Paris gebruykyk, uytgegeven door adriaa schoonebeek? ("oltre al disegno delle celle, così come il servizio e le cerimonie dopo la caduta di un candidato di Parigi, dato da Aadrian Schoonebeek").L'incisione rappresenta, in quattordici riquadri (sette a sinistra e sette a destra), le fasi del conclave; in centro piazza San Pietro con la "processione del clero che va in vaticano a pregare per l'elezione di un buon papa", una pianta del palazzo papale, il tutto decorato da putti e angeli che sorreggono drappi.  I rapporti tra Roma e la Francia erano tesi, in seguito all'intransigenza dimostrata dall'Ottoboni verso il tentativo di Luigi XIV di estendere il diritto di regalìa a tutte le chiese di Francia. La sua candidatura in conclave fu sostenuta da un folto gruppo di "zelanti", e si concluse con la sua elezione a Papa in data 1698.Rara incisione  coeva alla quale è ispirata la  tav. LXXIX, del tomo IV di  Blaeu, "Het nieuw stede boek van Italie", 1704. Book.

First edition of one of the most attractive late 17th century numismatic books, a survey of events and accomplishments in the life of William Prince of Orange, elected King William III of England in 1688. 120 finely engraved text illustrations by Adriaen Schoonebeek (1656-1705) represent the obverses and reverses of commem-orative medals and coins struck in honour of the monarch. The significance of each illustration and transcription is explained in the accompanying text by Nicolas Chevalier, a French protestant clergyman, coin collector, and archaeologist, who fled to Holland after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The frontispiece and 12 other plates by the celebrated Dutch artist and medalist Romeyn De Hooghe (1645-1708) depict William of Orange s ceremonial entry into The Hague, mythological scenes with portraits of William and Mary, and triumphal arches and monuments; these beautiful engravings of festivities are adaptations from De Hooghe s illustrations for Bidloo s book on the same subject published the previous year. Elegante legatura coeva in piena pelle, dorsi lisci con ricchi fregi e titoli su doppi tasselli in marocchino rosso. Piatti inquadrati da triplice filetto in oro, sguardie e tagli marmorizzati. Bell'esemplare, fresco ed in eccellente stato di conservazione. Prima edizione di questo celebre testo storico sugli ordini cavallereschi. Non comune, soprattutto in tale, impeccabile stato di conservazione.
