Rafael de León es sin duda uno de los compositores más prolíficos de la historia musical de nuestro país. Destacado poeta de la Generación del 27, su nombre estará para siempre ligado a la historia de la canción española: formó junto a Antonio Quintero y Manuel Quiroga el más famoso trío de letristas del siglo pasado. Coplas como "La Parrala", "A tu vera", "Ojos verdes", "Tatuaje", o el pasodoble por excelencia "Francisco Alegre" dieron color a la España triste de la posguerra. Y, sí, Rafael de León también escribió teatro, en total ocho piezas de las que reunimos las siete que se han conservado, precedidas de un ensayo crítico. Acompañan los textos páginas manuscritas y partituras con anotaciones realizadas por el propio autor y publicadas aquí por primera vez. Las obras recorren décadas de teatro español mostrando una evolución que va desde los años 30, con piezas andalucistas del gusto del gran público, hasta la vuelta al clásico a finales de los 60, pasando por la experimentación teatral intimista destinada a una audiencia de criterios más refinados.
