Signed by both the author and illustrator, with an intimate presentation inscription, to Marion Gilliand, a well-known author and academic at the University of Florida. On the half-title page, Marion has inscribed the book to herself "To Marion from Marion! October 1966." The overall condition is Very Good. The jacket shows age toning and has small chips and tears to the edges and spine, with a small amount of loss at the spine head and mild cockling to back of DJ. White cloth covers remain fairly bright with a little tanning to spine. Page edges have foxing, mostly at the top edge. Aside from the signatures and inscriptions, the interior pages are clean, bright and unmarked, and the binding remains secure. A wonderful dual-signed presentation copy from the personal library of their University of Florida colleague and friend! Gordon E. Bigelow (1919-1989), the author of this definitive biography of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, was a distinguished Professor of English at the University of Florida and a leading scholar of American literature. Robert E. Carson (1904-1971), the illustrator, widely known as "Doc," was a Humanities Professor at the University of Florida, a professional jazz musician, and a celebrated watercolor artist.
