In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: VG. 1st ed. f/piece portrait of Ridgeway with tissue-guard. xxv+656, plates ex-pag. & text figs throughout numbered by chapter, top edge gilt, uncut fore-edge (which has resulted in a few minor marginal cedge chips of little consequence); small faint heraldic 'Coll. De Sion. Lond' stamp above t.p. imprint, but no other internal markings of any kind, this stamp actually fairly innocuous, clean and tight with good end-gutters etc. Black cloth covers, with gilt heraldic motif centre front, clean and virtually unworn bar very small chip bottom spine and another, tinier, to top, faint round lib.label ghost lower spine. Contributors include numerous eminent figures from the worlds of archaeology, anthropology, classics and history including Gomme, Flinders Petrie, Tillyard, M.R.James, J.G.Frazer, Boyd Dawkins, Seligmann, Rivers, Haddon, Elliot Smith and C.S.Myers. Many of these attended the dinner on 31st July 1913, the seating plan of which is given on p.648 (80 attending in all, no women though!). A remarkable festchrift with papers on everything from Cicero to black figure vases and German river names to Torres Straits outrigger canoes. Uncommon.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Originally published in 1906, this study by E. C. Quiggin was, as its author put it, 'the first serious attempt at a scientific description of a northern dialect of Irish'. Quiggin maintained that collecting linguistic data from the people who were born before the famine was of immediate concern because their particular grasp of the vernacular would help shed much-needed light on the mysteries of Old and Middle Irish orthography. Drawn primarily from evidence of the speech found in a hamlet called Meenawannia near Donegal, this volume represents a fascinating case study of the Irish language at the beginning of the twentieth century.
