The pictures of the After-world in Homer and Plato stand out from the mass of earlier imaginings. They represent very well, as N orden (p. 5) has pointed out, the two mainly independent and partly competing theories or accounts current in antiquity, which may be called, one the Mythological, and the other that of the Philosophers or Theologians.
