His signature to first pastedown and minor pencil annotations to rear. Please see our other listings for related works. Printed by Order of the Trustees, British Museum, London, 1928. This is the second edition of the earlier work, produced in a larger format with many more plates. This first part covered Prehellenic and Archaic sculptures of Greece. These early hardback catalogues are now uncommon. A very good black hardback with gilt titles to spine. Covers with some rubbing and bumping and some crinkling to cloth in places. Some offsetting to first two pages at either end of the book. Otherwise text is bright and clean with black and white illustrations throughout. the plates at the rear are also bright and clean with tissue guards. Soundly bound. Text in English. viii + 214pp + 1pp + XLIII plates at rear, with guards. There is also one fold-out plate in the text. Weight approximately 1121g (unpacked). Dimensions: Approximately 253mm high x 193mm wide x 31mm deep. More photos on request. Extra postage may be payable.

Recent craft binding of full navy morocco, with gilt titles and borders on a green morocco emblem inlaid to the upper board, and a down of hares illustration inlaid in light brown morroco to the lower board. Housed in the felt-lined blue buckram traycase, with gilt titles on a green label to the bl…ack morocco leather backstrip of the tray component. Illustrated with 60 black and white maps (including one in fold-out format), photographic plates and small illustrations, six colour plates, and various tables and graphs throughout. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, bright and fresh, with a little bowing to the board ends, and some light marks to the lower board. The contents, with a little waving to the front free endpaper and prelims and various tiny marks to pages 56 and 57, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed, structurally sound traycase, that has a little gum residue to the bottom edge. A collection of eight essays on the history, excavation, and folklore of the Welsh parish and church of Pennant Melangell. A half calf volume with seventy-five pages of sheet music, with each page filled with music, psalms and hymns.Dated from an ink inscription from the owner of the book.This well-loved, handwritten m…usical work is filled with a variety of religious lyrics, including 'Love Divine, All Loves Excelling', 'Lamb of God', 'Why Those Fears?', a number of 'Morning' and 'Evening' hymns, as well as a selection of French hymns, such as 'Sentiment de Notre Misère' and 'Le Monde Passe'. With musical accompaniment to some verses, while others detail solely the lyrics. This charming collection was written by Charlotte M. Pryce, with her ownership inscription to the front paste down, dated July 1837, Edinburgh. With a label of 'Paterson & Roy', Edinburgh, "Who have always on hand a Choice selection of London Piano-Fortes". Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. Externally, slightly worn, with rubbing to boards and extremities. Slight loss to the head and tail of the spine and cracking to the joints. Ink inscription to the front paste down and label to the rear paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Some pages are tipped in, with additions to pages, the odd mark. Work is handwritten, with the occasional ink blot and tear to pages. Good. None (illustrator). book.

In the 1930s Subramanyan Chandrasekhar, who would win the 1983 Nobel Prize in physics for his work on the structure and evolution of stars, came up with a generalized standard model for certain types of stars that made use of relativistic Fermi-Dirac statistics and other quantum-mechanical concepts. Arthur Eddington, the distinguished British astrophysicist, objected to Chandrasekhar's methods and his conclusions, arguing against them both in person and in print. In the present paper Dirac, Peierls and Pryce countered Eddington's arguments, "[showing] in particular that the dynamics of atomic systems did allow one to perform correctly all of the procedures [Eddington] had criticized. Thus, they simply confirmed the general opinion of the community of physicists, namely: 'Eddington's system of mechanics is in many respects completely different from quantum mechanics'" (Mehra & Rechenberg, The Historical Development of Quantum Theory, 6, p. 887). .
