Rubbing to boards and spine, with fairly heavy rubbing to spine ends. Title on spine is heavily rubbed and barely visible. Some bumping to corners. Ex Libris of W. Kendrick Pritchett on front pastedown, with some discoloration along front and rear hinges. Interior has been annotated in pen and pencil throughout by Pritchett. Interior mostly clean, with only some light staining on a couple of pages. First gathering somewhat loose, but the binding is still quite sound. While working on his Ph.D. at The Johns Hopkins University, Pritchett was a research assistant to Benjamin Dean Meritt at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. Co-authored with Meritt, this was Pritchett's first book, and was published two years before he received his doctorate. From Pritchett's personal library, this copy bears annotations throughout, and laid-in are a 1949 issue of Atti Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, as well as the final page of a newsletter from the Institute for Advanced Study, which appears to have been written in 1953 or 1954.
