Der Band betrachtet Sorge in ihren historischen Entwicklungen durch die ganze europäische Kultur hindurch. Sie begegnet hier als Nächstenliebe, Patronage, Solidarität oder Wohltätigkeit. Der Bogen wird dabei von den griechisch-römischen Grundlagen bis zu Konzepten und Formen des Sorgens im Diskurs der Gegenwart gespannt. Als Kontrapunkt zur europäischen Geschichte werden zum Abschluss die indischen Traditionen von Sorge beleuchtet.
