Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Rarities and ephemera from the life and work of Piero Heliczer--poet, filmmaker, publisher, the Apollinaire of the international '60s avant-gardePiero Heliczer (1937-93) was one of the most important and ubiquitous protagonists of the underground of the 1960s and '70s. Born in Italy, Heliczer… lived between London, Paris, New York and Amsterdam; a poet, publisher and filmmaker, he took an active part in Andy Warhol's Factory, filmed the Velvet Underground, and helped Jack Smith on the production of Flaming Creatures. The founder of the Dead Language Press in Paris in the late 1950s, he published Beat poets such as Gregory Corso, as well as the works of Angus MacLise, and was a close friend and collaborator to Tom Raworth, Anselm Hollo and Gerard Malanga. However, Heliczer's work eludes easy classification and stable forms. He preferred the circulation and dissemination of his poetry in broadsheets, little magazines such as Outburst, Locus Solus and The World, and at public readings, in accord with his nomadic, nonconformist life. Piero Heliczer: Poems & Documents retraces his oeuvre, revealing its vital energy and experimental drive through the poems Heliczer published in magazines and periodicals between 1959 and 1979. The poems are presented as facsimile pages from the original magazines, accompanied by reproductions of documents and ephemera, to further highlight the singular printed culture of an era, and the fervent community it nourished.

In den WarenkorbFirst Edition. Uncommon artists's book by Heliczer, who was one of the geniuses of the Mimeo Revolution, and whose Dead Language Press produced some of the most beautiful objects of the movement. Young was a central figure throughout the 1960s NYC music and literary scenes. He founded the Folklore Center, produced Dylan's first…concert in 1961 (Dylan even wrote a song for/about him, "Talking Folklore Center"), and helped Ed Sanders to print several items from from his Fuck You Press on the mimeo machine at the Center. A decidedly uncommon book with a unique and unusual association. Square 12mo. Stiff pink original printed pictorial wrappers (we've also seen this in orange wraps). Some minor rubbing and edge-wear. Touch of fading to spine and a few faint creases. Very good. [28]pp. PROVENANCE: Izzy Young's copy, with his contemporary ownership in- scription to inside rear cover: "Israel G. Young, 2-28-66, from the author, and kissed by the author on the front cover." And indeed: SIGNED by Heliczer at his printed name to rear cover (Young was mistaken about this) and KISSED three times by him with red lipstick impressions to same. Young was a central figure throughout the 1960s NYC music and literary scenes. He founded the Folklore Center, produced Dylan's first concert in 1961 (Dylan even wrote a song for/about him, "Talking Folklore Center"), and was close to Sanders, helping to print several titles from from his Fuck You Press on the mimeo machine at the Center.

In den WarenkorbSmall 4to (184 x 174 mm). 14 ff., unsewn. Letterpress on brown paper stock. Original orange printed pictorial wrappers. Front cover reproduces aphotograph of automobile and soldiers in First World War German uniforms, with a decorative art nouveau border. An inscribed early Dead Language copy: Piero Heliczer's "The First Battle o…f the Marne", one of the defining early productions of his small press, survives here in the scarcer orange-wrapper state and with a contemporary authorial presentation dated 1963. - The volume brings together six poems, followed by Anselm Hollo's note dated November 1962. Seven oblongsheets of brown paper are folded centrally to form a volume of 28 pages. - Heliczer (1937-93) stands at the volatile centre of the New York mimeograph and underground scene of the early 1960s, and this publication belongs to the brief, visually ambitious moment in which Dead Language press issued some of the most memorable objects of that milieu. This copy is additionally distinguished by its ballpoint inscription by Heliczer himself to his wife Kate, dated on Bastille Day 1963, the 174th anniversary of the French Revolution. - Minor soiling and wear, but in excellent condition. A contemporary newspaper clipping showing Heliczer in Andy Warhol's "Couch" is loosely inserted. - From a French private collection of counter-cultural prints.
