Softcover, bound in printed self-wraps, removed in the distant past from a collection of bound pamphlets with stab marks along the spine. 3 pages, plus a blank page. There are minor creases with some minor stains to the co…ver pages. Good. A message on appropriations for the Indian Department regarding the colonization of Texas Indians upon reservations and the opening of communications with Texas tribes of Comanches and Apaches who have not yet approved treaties with the United States. Of note is Special Agent for Texas Indians Robert S. Neighbors' report in the form of a letter to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs Colonel George Manypenny. The Indian agent and Texas state legislator Robert Simpson Neighbors (1815-1859) was regarded as a determined protector of Indian interests. Neighbors was murdered after rightfully accusing the Belknap sheriff and saloon owner Patrick Murphy of stealing horses from the Indian Reservations. Murphy's brother-in-law, a man name Cornet, accused Neighbors of defaming Murphy. Neighbors was murdered by Cornet with a shotgun when he refused to recant the accusation. Cornet was later killed during his arrest after going on the run.

Smith, freundschaftlich der Verf." Smith began his career at the University of Wisconsin, specializing primarily in algaes. He was later Professor of Botany at Stanford from 1925 to 1950. This single part from Engler and Prantl's important work of taxonomy focuses on two classes of green algae. 2) Farlow, W. G. The Marine Algae of New England. Bookplate of Peirce on front pastedown. Peirce was a professor of botany at Stanford from 1897-1933. 3) [Wittrock] Klebs, Georg. Ueber die Formen einiger Gattungen der Desmidiaceen Ostpreussens. [On the forms of some genera of the Desmidiacea of East Prussia. An inaugural dissertation for Kaiser Wilhelms University Strassburg]. Konigsberg, 1879. 8vo, 42 pp. plus one illustrated plate with key. Black cloth boards, gray cloth backstrip lettered in gilt, plain endpapers. Contents age-toned, binding lightly worn. § Klebs' dissertation on freshwater green algae from the library of Veit Brecher Wittrock (1839-1914), the Swedish botanist, with his exlibris stamp and a clipped inscription to Professor Wittrock from "the author" on the front free endpaper.
