Limited edition no. 39 / 500 in silver titled grey cloth case with ribbon tie 48 x 63cm, lined in grey paper, complete with 10 hand signed and numbered original colour printer and artist proofs, acetate colour printed index sheet, logo page, and blank acetate separators (all 46x61cm). The case is very good with marks and dusting to the cloth and closed tear to paper lining. The contents fine except for a short edge crease to one of the photos and some creasing to separators. This commemorates the 5th anniversary of American Photographer Magazine, which ran monthly during 1978-90. The photos, printed in June 1983, are signed and dated by the photographer, printer David Rose, and Art Director Louis Cruz. Contents: 1. Stretch Dive by Bishin Jumonji, to advertise a Matsushita Electronic Corporation television set. / 2. Boy in Pool by Jerry Gordon / 3. Greasy Rider by Dennis Manarchy, advertising Carrera crash helmets / 4. New Volcano by Pete Turner: taken on the island of Heimeay off the Iceland coast / 5. Marathon Runners by Chuck Rogers, taken on a 4 July in Atlanta and later used by Nike / 6. NASA Astronaut - a photo of Alan Bean the fourth person to walk on the Moon by fellow astronaut Charles Conrad / 7. King Khalid and Prince Fahd by Lebanese-American photographer Robert Azzi, taken during the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the King Khalid Military City in Saudi Arabia on 1 Feb 1978 / 8. Winter Landscape by Dutch sound engineer Kees van den Berg / 9. Masai Tribesmen by Eric Meola, taken in Kenya whilst photographing coffee plantations for an ad campaign / 9. Are you ready to sail around the moon- "Pete" Charles Conrad". Inscribed for Louis Hartsell, the chef in the Astronaut Training Facility at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Kennedy/Cape Canaveral. An original photograph, with undated NASA printed notations on reverse indicating that Conrad is one of nine astronauts selected by NASA on September 17, 1962. From Hartsell's collection of astronaut photographs all taken and signed circa 1964-1972. Conrad's "for the third time" indicates that this was signed just before Apollo 12 launched. Signed limited Naval Aviation in Space print, one of 1000 copies signed by Neil Armstrong and eight other astronauts representing all of NASAâs space programs, including: Alan Shepard (first American in Space and Apollo 14 Commander/moonwalker); Neil Armstrong (Apollo 11 Commander and first moonwalker); Pete Conrad (Commander of Gemini, Apollo 12 moonwalker, and Skylab missions); Jack Lousma (Skylab astronaut); John Glenn (first American to orbit the earth); Gene Cernan (Commander of Apollo 17 and the Last man on the Moon); Jim Lovell (Commander of Apollo 8, the first flight to/around the moon); Wally Schirra (the only astronaut to fly in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs); Rick Hauck (Commander of the first shuttle flight after the Challenger tragedy). Also signed by the artist, R. L. Rasmussen. One of 1000 numbered copies signed by the nine astronauts at a symposium held at the Naval Aviation Museum in 1989, this is number 300. In fine condition. Triple matted and framed. The print measures 28 inches by 21 inches. The entire piece measures 26 inches by 29 inches. An exceptional ensemble of signatures including that of the first American in space, the first American to orbit the earth, and the first and last men to walk on the moon.
