There is the author's signature on the dedication page but this is a facsimile, not an actual signature as it was printed along with the book. Copyright page states first edition - second printing. The worst condition issue is the upper corner of the front cover along with the associated spine exterior tears, the interior of the book grades VG.

First edition in English of Frison-Roche's novel, based on his experiences as a war correspondent in Tunisia and several expeditions in the Sahara. Roger Frison-Roche (1906-1999) was a mountaineer who "in 1932 became the first to transmit a radio programme from the peak of Mont Blanc, the ascent of which he described as 'almost too easy'" (The Independent). This work was originally published in French in 1950 and translated into English by American composer and author of The Sheltering Sky, Paul Bowles(1910-1999).
