Roberts, one… of the most influential Mormon writers of the twentieth century, began work on "the most important book that I have yet contributed to the [LDS] Church." A prolific and respected Mormon apologist, Roberts wanted to consolidate his theological thought into a unified whole and to reconcile science with scripture. His final manuscript, "The Truth, the Way, the Life," synthesized doctrine into three sections: the truth about the world and revelation, the way of salvation, and Jesus' life in shaping Christian character. He submitted his completed work to the LDS First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, which, after a series of heated meetings, rejected it. Roberts's views on evolution, the age of the earth, the pre-earth existence, and the eternal progression of God were deemed too controversial, so his "masterwork" went unpublished. With the support of the Roberts family, editor Stan Larson has corrected this sixty-year omission from the corpus of Mormon theology.".

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Between the years 1890 and 1924, the dominant view of the universe suggested a cosmology largely foreign to contemporary ideas. First, astronomers believed they had confirmed that the sun was roughly in the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. Second, con…siderable evidence indicated that the size of the galaxy was only about one-third the value now accepted by today's astronomers. Third, it was thought that interstellar space was completely transparent, that there was no absorbing material between the stars. Fourth, astronomers believed that the universe was composed of numerous star systems comparable to the Milky Way galaxy. The method that provided this picture and came to dominate cosmology was 'statistical' in nature, because it was based on the counts of stars and their positions, motions, brightnesses and stellar spectra. Professor Paul describes the rise of this statistical cosmology in light of developments in nineteenth-century astronomy and explains how this cosmology set the stage for many of the most significant developments of twentieth-century astronomy.

Text and poems by Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, Léon Deubel, Emile Verhaeren, Albert Verwey, Franz Werfel, Paul Zech (Die neue Bergpredigt), René Schickele, Richard Dehmel, Oskar Loerke, Arno Holz, Heinrich Lautensack, Hans Ehrenbaum-Degele, Robert R. Schmidt, and Alfred Mombert. One of 250 unnumbered copies of the 'Ausgabe B' printed on 'hollandischem Bütten' (Holland paper). Some creasing and closed tears along spine. Minor age-toning along edges of wrappers. Text in German, gothic script. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition.

WILLY ROBERT HUTH (W. Robert Huth, 1890-1977) Professor, Deutscher expressionistischer Landschaftsmaler der Verschollenen Generation. Er studierte an den Kunstgewerbeschulen in Erfurt und Düsseldorf und ließ sich 1918 in Berlin nieder, wo er mit Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Erich Heckel, George Grosz und Max Pechstein Bekanntschaft machte und bei der Freien Sezession ausstellte. In dieser Zeit begann er, auf Hiddensee zu arbeiten. Huth nahm 1923 an der 1. deutschen Expressionistenschau in der New Yorker The Andersen Art Galleries teil, gemeinsam mit u. a. Paul Klee, Christian Rohlfs, Erich Heckel, Otto Mueller, Heinrich Nauen und Emil Nolde.
