Good hardcover in very good dust jacket. 127pp. Gray paper or thin cloth with burlap spine cover and spine label. Volume One in a series which eventually grew to five volumes. Limited edition of 275 copies, 255 which were available for sale. This copy is number 76. Originally printed with an original Benson etching bound in as the frontispiece, this copy has had the original etching removed. The book is ex-library, with a library stamp to the inside covers, a card holder on the rear end page along with a bar code sticker. Bar code sticker also on front panel mylar. On the copyright page, there are library notations and a note that this copy was a gift from Mr. Pemberton Whitcomb, a summer resident of Cotuit. The relatively plain gray dust jacket has been protected in mylar and is well-preserved. There is a library sticker to the lower spine of the dust jacket. The mylar DJ protector is taped in four places to the faces of the covers. The bottom edges of the covers are worn to the boards. The pages are clean but all have dampstains at the binding gutter and extending to the top/bottom margins. No images are affected.Some pages are a bit damaged in the dampstained areas, having been stuck together and later separated, mostly in the index and rear end pages. The free end pages have foxing. Binding is tight. This copy is very serviceable with all images and text clean. An uncommon volume from the Benson series which displays well and would be a good completion for an incomplete set. The first of five volumes of the Benson catalogue raisonne published between 1917 and 1959. The original etching is titled "Pair of Ducks". A good copy with some soiling and edgewear to the cover boards. The rear cover has a stain in the lower right corner. The endsheets are lightly foxed and there are two ink initials with a date underneath on the flyleaf else the text is very good and clean. The original etching is in fine clean condition. Foreign postage extra on this large book. Signed by Illustrator(s).

Volume 1 published 1917, edition 275, this one numbered 107, etching frontispiece "Pair of Ducks". Volume 2 published 1919, edition 275, this one numbered 89, etching frontispiece "Frontispiece Volume Two (Two Geese)". Volume 3 published 1923, edition 525, this one numbered 345, etching frontispiece "Frontispiece Volume Three (flying ducks)". Volume 4 published 1929, edition 600, this one numbered 348, etching frontispiece "Flying Pintail." Volume 5 published 1959, edition 400, this one numbered 353, etching frontispiece "Grouse on a Pine Bough." This is the original fully illustrated catalogue raisonne of the Frank Benson's graphic work. Each volume contains an original etching by the artist, volume 1 through 4 contain signed etchings, volume 5 an unsigned etching (volume 5 published after the artist's death). Benson including the very rare vol. 1 - the four volumes are vols. 1, 3, 4 & 5. All volumes are complete with the original Benson frontispiece etchings, vols. 1, 3 & 4 signed by Benson. Details as follows. Vol. One 1917, no. 48 of an edition of 275 (of which 255 for sale), with original dust jacket but this fair only with some chipping to the head/tail of the spine and some loss to the rear top corner, tears stabilised to the underside with archival tape. Vol. Three 1923, no. 455 of an edition of 525 (of which 475 for sale), with very good original dust jacket, slightly chipped to the head of the spine. Vol. Four 1929, no. 133 of an edition of 600 (of which 550 for sale), no dust jacket, spine a little rubbed and worn, hessian covering slightly chipped at the head/tail. Vol. Five 1959, no. 243 of an edition of 400 (of which 350 for sale), with very good to fine original dust jacket. All dust jackets now protected in clear removable archival sleeves. Contents of all volumes clean and tight., previous owner's name and address to the front end paper of vol. 4 otherwise no inscriptions. A very good set of four volumes. Size: 4to. Book.

Copy #258 of 525 numbered copies with an ORIGINAL SIGNED ETCHING by Benson bound in at the front. Illustrated with detailed information about Benson's work. In the scarce dustwrapper which other than a thumb-sized chip at the head is in very nice condition. Fine in a Near Fine dustwrapper and quite uncommon as such.
